Description

Technical Field

[0001] This invention generally relates to the field of communication technology. For example, this invention provides apparatus, methods, and systems for transmitting demodulation reference signals (DRMS). Background Technology

[0002] Today, network energy efficiency is increasingly important, primarily due to two pressing needs: the necessity to mitigate environmental degradation (especially greenhouse gas emissions) and the urgency to reduce operating expenses. The emergence of 6th Generation (6G) telecommunications technology marks a paradigm shift relative to 5G, accommodating more complex services and applications. These advancements require extremely high data transmission rates, as exemplified by technologies such as Extended Reality (XR). Therefore, the evolution to 6G and beyond is characterized by increased network density, a larger number of antennas, wider bandwidth, and expanded spectrum.

[0003] While the transition to these advanced telecommunications technologies promises great potential in terms of connectivity and quality of service, it also presents significant challenges in terms of environmental sustainability. Ensuring that the environmental footprint of next-generation (6G and above) networks remains manageable is of paramount importance. Therefore, developing innovative solutions aimed at improving the energy efficiency of these networks is crucial. Summary of the Invention

[0004] A significant portion of network operators' operating expenses is attributable to energy consumption. For example, according to the GSMA, energy costs account for approximately 23% of the total operating costs of mobile networks. A large portion of this energy expenditure comes from the Radio Access Network (RAN), particularly the Active Antenna Unit (AAU). While data centers and fiber optic transmission systems also contribute to overall energy consumption, their impact is relatively small. Energy consumption in the RAN can be divided into two distinct components: a dynamic component, which depends on active data transmission and reception; and a static component, which persists regardless of data transmission activity and serves to maintain the operational readiness of the radio access equipment.

[0005] The synchronization signal (SS) / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) is the first signal / message that a cellular device detects / decodes in order to connect to a wireless network. In current 5G New Radio (NR) networks, the SSB spans four OFDM symbols in the time domain and 240 subcarriers in the frequency domain, such as... Figure 1 As shown. Traditional SSB resource mapping can be found in Chapter 7.4.3 of 3GPP TS 38.211V18.1.0.

[0006] However, this traditional SSB design still consumes a considerable amount of power to ensure coverage and fast cell access. How to optimize SSB from a power consumption perspective remains a question.

[0007] In view of the above-mentioned problems and drawbacks, the present invention aims to optimize the power consumption of wireless communication networks. For example, the object of the present invention may be to reduce the power consumption caused by SSB transmission (or demodulation reference signal transmission) in advanced wireless mobile networks above 5G.

[0008] These and other objectives are achieved by means of the invention, for example, as described in the independent claims. Advantageous implementations are further described in the dependent claims.

[0009] A first aspect of the present invention provides a wireless communication method applied to a transmitting device. The method includes the following steps: - Determine one or more actual resource mapping patterns from multiple candidate resource mapping patterns for PBCH transport; - For each actual resource mapping pattern, generate a DMRS sequence, wherein the length of the DMRS sequence is determined according to the actual resource mapping pattern; - For each DMRS sequence, generate a PBCH encoded sequence according to the actual resource mapping pattern; - For each actual resource mapping pattern, the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence are sent to one or more receiving devices using the actual resource mapping pattern.

[0010] Optionally, the plurality of candidate resource mapping patterns may differ in mapping the DMRS sequence to the time-frequency domain. Optionally, the plurality of candidate resource mapping patterns may differ in the positional offset of the DMRS sequence in the frequency domain. Optionally, the plurality of candidate resource mapping patterns may differ in arranging OFDM symbols for the DMRS sequence.

[0011] It should be noted that the DMRS sequence described in this invention is a specific DMRS sequence (abbreviated as PBCH DMRS) transmitted on the PBCH. The PBCH DMRS includes a sequence of DMRS symbols, which can be used by the UE to perform channel and noise estimation in order to decode the PBCH encoded sequence transmitted on the PBCH.

[0012] By determining one or more suitable resource mapping patterns as the one or more actual resource mapping patterns, power consumption can be saved. Inter-cell interference can also be reduced.

[0013] In one implementation of the first aspect, each actual resource mapping pattern can be UE-specific or UE-group-specific.

[0014] In another implementation of the first aspect, the length of the PBCH encoded sequence, and / or the encoding rate, and / or rate matching, as well as the scrambling, can be determined based on the actual resource mapping pattern.

[0015] In another implementation of the first aspect, before transmitting the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence, the method further includes sending an indication to a corresponding receiving device. The indication specifies one or more actual resource mapping patterns for transmitting the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence.

[0016] In another implementation of the first aspect, each actual resource mapping mode may include time resources with variable intervals and / or frequency resources with variable intervals for transmitting the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence.

[0017] In another implementation of the first aspect, each actual resource mapping pattern may be determined based on one or more of network condition information, channel condition information, and neighboring cell information.

[0018] In another implementation of the first aspect, to determine the one or more actual resource mapping patterns, the method may include receiving an indication from a corresponding receiving device. The indication indicates one or more desired resource mapping patterns, such that the one or more actual resource mapping patterns are determined taking into account the one or more desired resource mapping patterns.

[0019] A second aspect of the present invention provides a wireless communication method applied to a receiving device. The method includes receiving a first indication from a transmitting device. The first indication indicates one or more actual resource mapping modes among a plurality of candidate resource mapping modes for PBCH transmission. For each indicated actual resource mapping mode, the method includes: receiving a DMRS sequence and a corresponding PBCH encoded sequence; processing the received DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence to obtain PBCH information.

[0020] In one implementation of the second aspect, before receiving the first indication, the method may include: sending a measurement report to the transmitting device, such that the transmitting device determines the actual resource mapping pattern of one or more indications based on the measurement report.

[0021] In another implementation of the second aspect, before receiving the first instruction, the method may include: sending a second instruction indicating one or more desired resource mapping modes.

[0022] In another implementation of the second aspect, the second indication may be transmitted via a signal from the Medium Access Control Control Element (MAC CE) of the Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) or the Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH).

[0023] A third aspect of the present invention provides a transmitting device for wireless communication. The transmitting device is used for: - Determine one or more actual resource mapping patterns from multiple candidate resource mapping patterns for PBCH transport; - For each actual resource mapping pattern, generate a DMRS sequence, wherein the length of the DMRS sequence is determined based on the actual resource mapping pattern; - For each DMRS sequence, generate a PBCH encoded sequence according to the actual resource mapping pattern; - For each actual resource mapping pattern, the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence are sent to one or more receiving devices using the actual resource mapping pattern.

[0024] In one implementation of the third aspect, each actual resource mapping pattern can be UE-specific or UE-group-specific.

[0025] In another implementation of the third aspect, the length of the PBCH encoded sequence, and / or the encoding rate, and / or rate matching, as well as the scrambling, can be determined based on the actual resource mapping pattern.

[0026] In another implementation of the third aspect, before transmitting the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence, the transmitting device may further be used to send an indication to the corresponding receiving device. The indication specifies one or more actual resource mapping patterns for transmitting the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence.

[0027] In another implementation of the third aspect, each actual resource mapping mode may include time resources with variable intervals and / or frequency resources with variable intervals for transmitting the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence.

[0028] In another implementation of the third aspect, each actual resource mapping pattern may be determined based on one or more of network condition information, channel condition information, and neighboring cell information.

[0029] In another implementation of the third aspect, to determine the one or more actual resource mapping patterns, the method may include receiving an indication from a corresponding receiving device. The indication indicates one or more desired resource mapping patterns, such that the one or more actual resource mapping patterns are determined taking into account the one or more desired resource mapping patterns.

[0030] A fourth aspect of the present invention provides a receiving device for wireless communication. The receiving device is configured to receive a first indication from a transmitting device. The first indication indicates one or more actual resource mapping modes among a plurality of candidate resource mapping modes for PBCH transmission. For each indicated actual resource mapping mode, the receiving device is configured to receive a DMRS sequence and a corresponding PBCH encoded sequence; and process the received DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence to obtain PBCH information.

[0031] In one implementation of the fourth aspect, before receiving the first indication, the receiving device may be configured to send a measurement report to the sending device, such that the sending device determines the actual resource mapping pattern of one or more indications based on the measurement report.

[0032] In another implementation of the fourth aspect, the receiving device may be used to send a second indication indicating one or more desired resource mapping modes before receiving the first indication.

[0033] In another implementation of the second aspect, the second indication may be sent via a signal from the MAC CE of the PUSCH or the PUCCH.

Attached Figure Description

[0040] The following description, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, will illustrate the above aspects and their implementation, as shown in the drawings: Figure 1 The time-frequency structure of a traditional SSB is shown; Figure 2 An example of PBCH DMRS is shown; Figure 3 The application scenario is shown; Figure 4A diagram illustrating a method applied to a transmitting device is shown; Figure 5 A diagram illustrating a method applied to a receiving device is shown; Figure 6 An example of a communication system is shown. Detailed Implementation

[0041] The following is a list of key terms and their acronyms / abbreviations used in this invention: 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP); Broadcast Channel (BCH); Binary Phase-Shift Keying (BPSK); Base Station (BS); Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC); Downlink Control Information (DCI); Downlink (DL); Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS); Next-Generation NodeB or gNodeB (gNB); Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC); New Radio (NR); Medium Access Control (MAC); MAC Control Element (MAC CE); Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS); Master Block (Master... Information Block (MIB); Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH); Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH); Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH); Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS); Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH); Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH); Radio Access Technology (RAT); Radio Access Network (RAN); Resource Block (RB); Resource Element (RE); Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI);Cell RNTI - C-RNTI; Paging RNTI - P-RNTI; Quaternary Phase Shift Keying - QPSK; Radio Resource Control - RRC; Subcarrier - SC; Synchronization Signal - SS; Synchronization Signal / PBCH Block - SSB; Secondary Synchronization Signal - SSS; Uplink - UL; User Equipment - UE.

[0042] In wireless communication systems such as 5G and 6G networks, PBCH is used to transmit MIBs. Figure 1 The time-frequency structure of a traditional SSB in a typical 5G NR system is shown, in which the PBCH is transmitted.

[0043] from Figure 1 It is clear that the PBCH is transmitted within the second and fourth OFDM symbols of the SS block. Furthermore, the PBCH transmission within the third OFDM symbol utilizes 48 subcarriers on each side of the SSS. The PBCH DMRS is also included as part of the PBCH transmission. The PBCH DMRS is a special type of physical layer signal used as a reference signal for decoding the PBCH payload. The UE uses the PBCH DMRS to estimate the propagation channel traversed by the PBCH. The estimated channel information is used to demodulate the PBCH payload and subsequently decode the MIB.

[0044] like Figure 1 As shown, the right side illustrates one RB of the PBCH, with PBCH DMRS occupying 1 / 4 of the PBCH subcarriers. The remainder is used for PBCH data / payload transmission. In this conventional design, the PBCH DMRS ratio is fixed to meet efficient channel estimation for various types of radio frequency-selective channels. However, this fixed ratio of PBCH DMRS is not optimal once channel properties are known. In this conventional design, PBCH DMRS is transmitted in each of the three OFDM symbols (i.e., OFDM symbols #1, #2, and #3) to accommodate different temporal variations on the channel, such as those caused by UE movement. This is not an optimal design for time-stationary channels.

[0045] Figure 2An example of the PBCH DMRS of the present invention is shown. For example... Figure 2 As shown, this invention proposes several candidate resource mapping modes for PBCH transmission.

[0046] The transmitting device (e.g., gNB) is used to determine one or more actual resource mapping patterns for PBCH transmission from a plurality of candidate resource mapping patterns. For example, there are three candidate resource mapping patterns and four receiving devices (e.g., UEs). The gNB can determine: - For UE 1, mode 1 is appropriate (i.e., candidate mode 1 is the actual mode of UE 1). - For UE 2 and UE 3, mode 2 is appropriate (i.e., candidate mode 2 is the actual mode for UE 2 and UE 3 as a UE group). - For UE 4, both Mode 1 and Mode 2 are appropriate (i.e., candidate Mode 1 and 2 are the actual modes for UE 4). In this case, candidate Mode 1 and 2 can be used for different time instances for UE 4.

[0047] For each actual resource mapping pattern (RPM), the transmitting device generates a corresponding DMRS sequence. The length of the generated DMRS sequence is consistent with the actual resource mapping pattern. Furthermore, the PBCH encoded sequence is also generated based on the actual resource mapping pattern. The transmitting device then uses the corresponding actual resource mapping pattern to send the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence to one or more receiving devices.

[0048] Optionally, each actual resource mapping pattern can be targeted at a specific receiving device (UE-specific) or a group of receiving devices (UE group-specific).

[0049] Optionally, the length of the PBCH encoded sequence, and / or the encoding rate, and / or rate matching, as well as the scrambling, can be determined based on the actual resource mapping pattern.

[0050] Optionally, the PBCH DMRS sequence length is variable in these multiple candidate resource mapping patterns. In this way, the multiple candidate resource mapping patterns are flexible in the time-frequency domain because the resources required to transmit the PBCH DMRS are variable. For example, in Figure 2 In Mode 1, the ratio of PBCH DMRS on OFDM symbols 1 and 3 is 1 / 3. In Mode 2, the ratio of PBCH DMRS on OFDM symbol 1 is 1 / 2, and on OFDM symbol 2 it is 1 / 4. This allows for flexible allocation of PBCH DMRS resources and optimizes radio resource utilization. It should be noted that, for simplicity, one RB is used in the frequency domain for illustration. Figure 2The same pattern can be applied to any one or more PBCH RBs, including Pattern 1 and Pattern 2.

[0051] Optionally, the multiple candidate resource mapping modes are also flexible in the time domain. For example, in mode 1, symbol 2 does not carry PBCH DMRS. In mode 2, symbol 3 does not carry PBCH DMRS.

[0052] Alternatively, the resource mapping pattern can be flexible in both the time and frequency domains.

[0053] Optionally, for the transmitting device (e.g., gNB) sending the PBCH and the receiving device (e.g., UE) receiving the PBCH, these multiple candidate resource mapping patterns can be known (or preset). Each pattern can be indicated using a corresponding index. For example, Figure 2 The shown modes 1 and 2 can be represented as shown in Table 1 below (assuming...). Predefined as shown in (=0): Table 1: Resources within the SS / PBCH block used for PBCH DM-RS.

[0054]

[0055] In Mode 1 according to Table 1, the length of the PBCH DMRS is equal to 320 bits (80 REs in Symbol 1, 80 REs in Symbol 3, QPSK). In this case, the length of the PBCH coded sequence is equal to 832 bits (1152 – 320 = 832 bits, QPSK). Alternatively, any suitable modulation can be used to modulate the PBCH DMRS and the PBCH coded sequence.

[0056] In Mode 2 according to Table 1, the length of the PBCH DMRS is equal to 288 bits (120 REs in Symbol 1, 24 REs in Symbol 2, QPSK). In this case, the length of the PBCH encoded sequence is equal to 832 bits (1152 – 288 = 832 bits, QPSK).

[0057] It should be noted that the number of bits for modes 1 and 2 mentioned above is for illustrative purposes only.

[0058] Optionally, one of the multiple modes can be the default mode. For example, in Table 1, mode 1 is the default mode. The default mode can be used if there is no instruction from the gNB and the UE does not require any specific mode.

[0059] It should be noted that Table 1 mentioned above is for illustrative purposes only. Any number of candidate modes can be predefined, and the detailed OFDM symbol and subcarrier design for transmitting PBCH DMRS is not limited to the examples in Table 1.

[0060] Optionally, modes 1 and 2 (or any other modes) can be on demand, which can be requested by the connected UE. For this purpose, the UE can be used to send a second indication indicating one or more desired resource mapping modes. The second indication may include one or more mode IDs corresponding to the one or more desired resource mapping modes. Optionally, the second indication can be sent via the MAC CE of the PUSCH or via a signal from the PUCCH.

[0061] Optionally, the gNB can be used to send a first indication to the UE. The first indication indicates one or more actual resource mapping modes for sending DMRS sequences and corresponding PBCH encoded sequences to the UE. The first indication may include one or more mode IDs corresponding to one or more actual resource mapping modes. Multiple actual resource mapping modes for PBCH detection can be assigned to a UE. Multiple actual resource mapping modes can be distributed across different time slots, subframes, and / or frames.

[0062] In general, the gNB can be adapted to make a final decision on which of one or more actual resource mapping patterns for PBCH transmission is most suitable for one or more UEs within the cell. Each actual resource mapping pattern can be determined based on one or more of the following: network condition information, channel condition information, and neighboring cell information. Optionally, the UE can be adapted to send a measurement report to the transmitting device. The measurement report can indicate channel conditions that are useful in determining one or more actual resource mapping patterns.

[0063] It should be noted that, Figure 2 The dynamic PBCH transmission mode shown can be used alone (without PSS / SSS transmission), or it can be used together with the conventional PSS / SSS mode, or it can be used together with the dynamic PSS / SSS transmission mode.

[0064] Figure 3 The application scenarios of this invention are illustrated. Different actual resource mapping modes can be used by the transmitting device for PBCH transmission. For example... Figure 3 As shown, Figure 2 Modes 1 and 2 used for PBCH transmission can be distributed across different time slots, allowing different receiving devices (with different channel conditions, etc.) to be assigned the appropriate mode for PBCH detection. Optionally, the receiving device can be adapted to detect PBCH transmitted through multiple modes. For example, if a PBCH decoding error exists in a previous mode, a different mode can be used.

[0065] Figure 4An illustration of a method 400 according to the present invention is shown. The method is applied to a transmitting device (e.g., a gNB or base station) and includes the following steps: Step 401: Determine one or more actual resource mapping patterns from a plurality of candidate resource mapping patterns for transmission on the physical broadcast channel (PBCH); Step 402: For each actual resource mapping pattern, generate a DMRS sequence, wherein the length of the DMRS sequence is determined based on the actual resource mapping pattern; Step 403: For each DMRS sequence, generate a PBCH encoded sequence according to the actual resource mapping pattern; Step 404: For each actual resource mapping pattern, send the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence to one or more receiving devices using the actual resource mapping pattern.

[0066] Figure 4 Method 400 can be shared above. Figures 1 to 3 The same optional features described in [the document].

[0067] Figure 5 An illustration of a method 500 according to the present invention is shown. The method is applied to a receiving device (e.g., a UE) and includes the following steps: Step 501: Receive a first indication from the transmitting device, the first indication indicating one or more actual resource mapping modes among a plurality of candidate resource mapping modes for PBCH transmission; Step 502: For each indicated actual resource mapping mode, receive the DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence; Step 503: Process the received DMRS sequence and the corresponding PBCH encoded sequence to obtain PBCH information.

[0068] Figure 5 Method 500 can be shared above. Figures 1 to 3 The same optional features described in [the document].

[0069] Figure 6 An example of a communication system 600 according to the present invention is shown. The communication system 600 includes components corresponding to... Figures 1 to 5 The gNB 610 of the transmitting device shown, and each corresponding to Figures 1 to 5 The three receiving devices shown are UEs 620, 640, and 660.

[0070] In this example, gNB is used to... Figure 2 The mode shown is 1 to send the PBCH to the first UE 620, and uses Figure 2The illustrated mode 2 is used to send PBCH to the second UE 640 and the third UE 660, which are in the same UE group. In this case, mode 1 is the UE-specific mode of the first UE 620, and mode 2 is the UE group-specific mode of the second UE 640 and the third UE 660.

[0071] Optionally, any UE can be used to send a measurement report to the gNB 610. The measurement report can indicate the channel conditions that can be considered when the gNB determines which mode is suitable for each UE.

[0072] Optionally, gNB 610 can be used to send a first indication to each UE indicating the actual mode to be used for PBCH transmission, so that each UE can perform PBCH detection accordingly. For example, gNB 610 can send a first indication indicating mode 1 to a first UE 620.

[0073] Optionally, any UE can be used to request a specific PBCH transmission mode. To this end, the UE can be used to send a second indication indicating the desired resource mapping mode for PBCH transmission. The desired resource mapping mode can be determined by the UE based on previous UE measurements used for channel quality estimation and / or UE speed estimation. Accordingly, the gNB can consider this desired resource mapping mode as the preferred mode for the corresponding UE and can follow the second indication when conditions permit. For example, a second UE 640 can send a second indication indicating the need for mode 2. Optionally, the gNB can be used to send a third indication to the UE to disable the on-demand PBCH transmission mode. In this case, UE requests for any specific PBCH transmission mode are not supported. For example, when traffic is low (low network resource utilization), the gNB can allow the UE to request PBCH transmission based on its needs (according to UE traffic or when UE measurements meet a certain condition). When traffic is high, UE requests for specific PBCH transmissions are prohibited.

[0074] In summary, this invention provides a dynamic design for PBCH transmission modes in wireless mobile networks. A variable and flexible PBCH transmission mode is proposed, in which the PBCH DMRS can be flexibly arranged in the time and / or frequency domains. In this way, PBCH transmission can adapt to UE channel conditions and / or inter-cell interference and / or service requirements. This invention can be used, for example, to reduce radiated power when the number of UEs in a cell is relatively small. Another use case is to support UEs with different initial bandwidth capabilities (e.g., RedCap UEs).

[0075] The first application scenario could be a connected UE requirement scenario, where the connected UE can request a specific mode. For example, this first application scenario may include the following steps: - Step 1: The UE knows the conditions required for the gNB to support the dynamic PBCH transport mode and / or to request a given transport mode (e.g., a set of channel quality-related conditions). - Step 2: The UE requests a given mode (e.g., previous UE measurements based on channel quality estimation and / or UE speed estimation). - Step 3: The UE learns the actual transmission mode from the gNB; Step 4: The UE uses the actual mode to detect the PBCH DMRS and PBCH payload in order to perform channel estimation and thus decode the MIB.

[0076] The second application scenario could be that the connected UE learns a specific mode. For example, this second application scenario could include the following steps: Step 1: The UE knows that the gNB supports dynamic PBCH transmission mode; - Step 2: Based on the UE measurement report and / or neighboring gNB information, the gNB makes a decision to select the appropriate mode from multiple candidate modes; Step 3: gNB informs UE of the appropriate mode.

[0077] The third application can be blind detection of idle / inactive UEs. For example, this third application scenario may include the following steps: - Step 1: The UE knows that the gNB supports the dynamic PBCH transmission mode, or that the dynamic PBCH transmission mode is required according to relevant communication specifications; Step 2: The UE performs blind detection on the possible patterns defined in the relevant communication specifications. Optionally, in this case, the number of possible patterns can be limited, for example, to two or three.

[0078] This invention can be applied to any telecommunications network / system, such as, but not limited to, 5G (or NR), 6G mobile networks, etc. The transmitting and receiving devices in this invention may each include processing circuitry or chipsets (not shown) for performing, implementing, or initiating the various operations described herein.
