Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] This disclosure relates to a medical sampling device, particularly a sampler bridge, and to a system including the medical sampling device, wherein the medical sampling device is attachable to an endoscope's aspiration connector, attachable to a sample container, and attachable to an aspiration source, wherein the medical sampling device can operate in at least a sampling mode and a bypass mode, the sampling mode being a sample collection mode in which a specimen sample from the endoscope is collected in a sample container, and the bypass mode being an aspiration mode in which a specimen sample is guided directly toward the aspiration source, thereby bypassing the sample container. Background Technology
[0002] Endoscopes, including specialized instruments such as bronchoscopes, are well known in the art and are used for visual examination and diagnosis of hollow organs and body cavities, and to assist in surgery (e.g., for sampling of target tissues). Both reusable and disposable (i.e., single-use) endoscopes are known in the art. Known endoscopes typically include an endoscope handle via which the operator can hold and control the endoscope. An insertion cord, including an insertion cannula, an actively bendable curved section (which is a section with increased flexibility), and a distal end unit, is typically attached to the endoscope handle. The insertion cord is configured for insertion into the patient's hollow organs and body cavities.
[0003] The typical procedure performed using a bronchoscope, or in other words, during a bronchoscopy, is bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). BAL is used to collect fluid samples from the lower respiratory tract, particularly the bronchioles and alveoli, for diagnostic or research purposes. To perform this bronchoscopy, a bronchoscope is guided to a specific area of the lung, a sterile saline solution is instilled into the lung segment, and the fluid is gently aspirated back, thereby collecting cells, microorganisms, proteins, and other components from the alveolar space.
[0004] Endoscopic surgery can involve aspirating fluids without sampling them. For example, bodily fluids can be aspirated to allow the endoscope's camera to obtain usable images of the body cavity, or to remove debris such as mucus or blood. Therefore, it is preferable to provide a valve configured to direct the fluid mixture aspirated through the endoscope to a sample container, or to bypass the sample container and direct the fluid mixture to a waste container.
[0005] To enable BAL surgery, known bronchial sampling kits include a medical sampling device (particularly a sampler bridge), an endoscope (particularly a bronchoscope), and a sample container, wherein the medical sampling device can be attached to both the endoscope and the sample container. The medical sampling device can operate in sampling mode and bypass mode. Sampling mode is a sample collection mode in which the specimen sample is collected in the sample container, while bypass mode is an aspiration mode in which the specimen sample is guided directly toward the aspiration source, thereby bypassing the sample container.
[0006] To reduce labor and complexity, it is preferable that a single operator manipulates the endoscope, medical sampling device, and sample container. For this purpose, the medical sampling device can be used to secure the sample container to the endoscope in a fixed and rigid manner. The medical sampling device should be as small as possible so that the system including the endoscope, sampling device, and sample container does not become difficult for the operator to manipulate. Additionally, the sampling device should minimize fluid pressure drop so that the vacuum provided by a vacuum source connected to the sampling device and connected to the working channel valve is used entirely for aspirating the fluid mixture from the patient. Sufficient use of vacuum reduces the duration of endoscopic procedures because fluid can be aspirated faster than with less vacuum. Furthermore, since the endoscope and patient may move, it is desirable to quickly retrieve the sample while the endoscope tip is in the desired position before any movement removes the endoscope tip from the desired position. Even further, it is desirable to quickly retrieve the sample before any bodily fluid refills the space where the sample is to be retrieved. These requirements contradict each other because the reduced size limits the space available to provide a fluid channel, which should be as large as possible to minimize fluid pressure drop. Summary of the Invention
[0007] The task and objective of this disclosure is to eliminate or at least reduce the disadvantages of related technologies. In particular, a medical sampling device is to be provided that reduces pressure loss in the medical sampling device, is simple in design, and is easy to assemble.
[0008] These tasks and objectives are achieved by the medical sampling device according to claim 1 and by the system according to claim 14. Advantageous embodiments are claimed in the dependent claims and / or explained herein.
[0009] This disclosure relates to a medical sampling device, particularly a sampler bridge, and a system including the medical sampling device, wherein the medical sampling device is attachable to an aspiration connector of an endoscope, preferably a bronchoscope, attachable to a sample container, and attachable to an aspiration source, wherein the medical sampling device is operable in at least a sampling mode and a bypass mode, the sampling mode being a sample collection mode in which a specimen sample from the endoscope is collected in a sample container, and the bypass mode being an aspiration mode in which a specimen sample is guided directly toward the aspiration source, thereby bypassing the sample container, the medical sampling device further including a clamping valve having at least a hose unit and a clamping unit configured to clamp the hose unit in at least a first clamping state providing the sampling mode and a second clamping state providing the bypass mode.
[0010] In other words, this disclosure provides a medical sampling device, particularly one with a clamping valve that enables both bypass and sampling modes by properly clamping a hose unit using a clamping unit. The disclosed clamping valve, located within the medical sampling device, advantageously provides a simple clamping solution by which the internal fluid flow can be appropriately regulated, and in particular reliably blocked, through a clamping engagement between the clamping unit and the hose unit at a desired location, thereby enabling at least a sampling mode and a bypass mode. It has been proven that the clamping engagement results in reduced pressure loss in both the first clamping state providing the sampling mode and the second clamping state providing the bypass mode. The benefit is that the hose unit can be fluidly connected to other flow channels without the need for separate seals and disconnection of flow channels, thus reducing or even eliminating the risk of leakage. Such leakage means that the escape of biological material may pose a potential risk to humans and increase the risk of infection.
[0011] It should be further noted that the endoscope that can be attached to the medical sampling device can be a flexible endoscope or a rigid endoscope. The endoscope can be a reusable or disposable endoscope. Preferably, the endoscope is a disposable endoscope. Particularly preferred is that the medical sampling device and the sample container are also disposable devices or components. Further, preferably, the endoscope is a bronchoscope; however, alternatively, it can also be a gastroscope, colonoscope, laparoscope, arthroscope, cystoscope, hysteroscope, etc.
[0012] Because the medical sampling device can be attached to an endoscope (preferably a bronchoscope) and a sample container, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) can be easily performed during bronchoscopy, especially when the medical sampling device can also be attached to an aspiration source, allowing fluid flow and aspiration in both bypass and sampling modes.
[0013] Furthermore, because the sample container is attachable and detachable from the medical sampling device, it can be replaced during use after switching from sampling mode to bypass mode. The advantage of a replaceable sample container in a kit or system that includes at least a medical sampling device and a sample container, preferably also including an endoscope, is that the desired probe space is not limited by the space of the sample container. This modularity improves workflow efficiency because multiple samples can be collected sequentially without interrupting endoscopic procedures, particularly bronchoscopy. Additionally, the replaceable sample container enables precise sample handling and storage, reducing the risk of pre-analytical contamination or degradation in the laboratory. In research and diagnostic settings, this feature can support higher throughput and consistency, making systems or kits with the disclosed medical sampling device more versatile and cost-effective.
[0014] The bypass and sampling modes in this system or kit allow for proper sample collection into the sample container in sampling mode without interrupting aspiration when the container is full, as the user can then easily and reliably switch to bypass mode. This offers advantages in both clinical and surgical efficiency. Uninterrupted operation is ensured by maintaining continuous aspiration. Seamless transitions between containers enhance the surgical workflow, eliminating the need for system pauses or manual intervention, which could extend examination or treatment time. Furthermore, uninterrupted aspiration reduces patient discomfort by minimizing surgical delays and ensuring a smoother, more efficient experience. This advantageously enhances user control, improves sample integrity, and contributes to more patient-friendly and hygienic endoscopic procedures.
[0015] Furthermore, by using the disclosed medical sampling device with a clamping valve, pressure loss in the medical sampling device can be reduced, thereby achieving consistent aspiration in both sampling and bypass modes. The clamping valve provides clamping engagement between the clamping unit and the tubing unit in at least two clamping states. This further improves surgical efficiency and reduces patient discomfort.
[0016] Medical sampling devices may include a sample container connection interface adapted / designed for connection to a sample container. Specifically, the medical sampling device may include a sample container attachment component or portion on which the sample container connection interface is formed. The sample container connection interface should be understood as a direct or indirect interface or contact point at which the sample container is attached to the medical sampling device. The sample container connection interface may be located on a separate sample container attachment component or part. Alternatively, the sample container connection interface may be located on another part or component of the medical sampling device, i.e., on the sample container attachment portion of another part or component of the medical sampling device.
[0017] The medical sampling device may include an endoscope connection interface adapted / designed for connection to an endoscope. Specifically, the medical sampling device may include an endoscope attachment assembly or portion on which the endoscope connection interface is formed. The endoscope connection interface should be understood as a direct or indirect interface or contact point at which the endoscope is attached to the medical sampling device. The endoscope connection interface may be located on a separate endoscope attachment assembly or part. Alternatively, the endoscope connection interface may be located on another part or component of the medical sampling device, i.e., on the endoscope attachment portion of another part or component of the medical sampling device.
[0018] Medical sampling devices may include an aspiration source connection interface adapted for connection to an aspiration source. Specifically, the medical sampling device may include an aspiration source attachment component or portion on which the aspiration source connection interface is formed. The aspiration source connection interface should be understood as a direct or indirect interface or contact point to which the aspiration source or a tube or flexible tube leading to the aspiration source is attached. The aspiration source connection interface may be located on a separate aspiration source attachment component or part. Alternatively, the aspiration source connection interface may be located on another part or component of the medical sampling device, i.e., on the aspiration source attachment portion of another part or component of the medical sampling device.
[0019] A medical sampling device may include a first axial end to which an endoscope may be attached, and a second axial end (opposite to the first axial end) to which a sample container may be attached. Preferably, the endoscope may also be detached from the first axial end, and preferably, the sample container may also be detached from the second axial end. It should be understood that, according to this disclosure, the endoscope and the sample container are not necessarily arranged opposite each other on opposite axial ends. For example, the endoscope or the sample container may also be connected in a manner substantially perpendicular to each other.
[0020] According to a preferred embodiment, the endoscope connection interface is disposed on the first axial end, the sample container connection interface is disposed on the second axial end, and a longitudinal axis is formed between the first axial end and the second axial end.
[0021] The suction source connection interface can be oriented at a certain angle relative to the longitudinal axis, preferably at a right angle.
[0022] Preferably, the medical sampling device includes a housing, in which a clamping valve is disposed.
[0023] The clamping unit of the clamping valve can be a single piece or can include multiple clamping parts.
[0024] The clamping valve may include an actuation unit configured to actuate the clamping unit, particularly to place the clamping unit in at least a first clamping state and a second clamping state. Preferably, the actuation unit is a mechanical actuation unit, particularly comprising or including a rotatable or displaceable actuation component or part, such as a lever, switch, or wheel. Alternatively, the actuation unit may be an electric actuation unit, which may include, for example, an electric switch, a control unit, and an electric motor for rotating or translating the clamping unit.
[0025] The clamping valve may include a pipe retainer configured and set to retain a hose unit.
[0026] The hose unit can be a single piece or can include multiple hoses.
[0027] The tubing unit may include a first fluid connection and a second fluid connection. The first fluid connection has a first endoscope end and a first sample container end, and the second fluid connection has a second endoscope end, a second sample container end, and a suction source end. The second fluid connection may have an endoscope portion, a sample container portion, and a suction source portion, each portion extending from a common connection point; that is, the second fluid connection may be substantially T-shaped.
[0028] The clamping unit can be configured to clamp the tubing unit in a second clamping state providing a bypass mode, allowing fluid to flow or be aspirated between the second endoscope end and the aspiration source end. Specifically, the clamping unit can be configured to clamp the tubing unit at a first position on the first fluid connection, in the second clamping state providing a bypass mode. The first position can be any position on the first fluid connection, thereby preventing fluid flow through the first fluid connection. Further, the clamping unit can be configured to clamp the tubing unit at a second position on the second fluid connection, in the second clamping state providing a bypass mode. The second position can be downstream of the connection point on the second fluid connection, thereby allowing fluid to flow between the second endoscope end and the aspiration source end, and preventing fluid from flowing towards and out of the second sample container end.
[0029] The clamping unit can be configured to clamp the tubing unit in a first clamping state providing the sampling mode, allowing fluid to flow from or be aspirated from the first endoscope end to the first sample container end, to or be aspirated from the sample container to the second sample container end, and to flow from or be aspirated from the second sample container end to the aspiration source end. Specifically, the clamping unit can be configured to clamp the tubing unit in the first clamping state providing the sampling mode, preventing fluid from flowing between the second endoscope end and the aspiration source end. Further, the clamping unit can be configured to clamp the tubing unit at a third position located on the second fluid connection portion, in the first clamping state providing the sampling mode. The third position can be upstream of the connection point on the second fluid connection portion, thereby preventing fluid from flowing between the second endoscope end and the second sample container end.
[0030] According to an embodiment, the clamping unit may be a rotating part, the rotation axis of which corresponds to the longitudinal axis.
[0031] Furthermore, according to an embodiment, the clamping unit may be a rotating part, the axis of rotation of which is arranged substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis.
[0032] Furthermore, according to an embodiment, the clamping unit may be formed as a rotating part and may include a first engaging end or portion (e.g., a wide clamping portion) and a second engaging end or portion (e.g., a narrow clamping portion), the first engaging end or portion being configured and set to clamp the first fluid connection portion and the second fluid connection portion, and the second engaging end or portion being configured and set to clamp only the second fluid connection portion (i.e., not clamping the first fluid connection portion).
[0033] Preferably, the engagement length of the first engagement end or portion is greater than the engagement length of the second engagement end or portion.
[0034] Furthermore, according to an embodiment, the first joint end or portion may be arranged substantially in the opposite manner to the second joint end or portion in diameter.
[0035] According to an embodiment, the clamping unit, which is formed as a rotating part, can rotate to a first position in a first clamping state that provides a sampling mode, in which the second engaging end clamps the second fluid connection part.
[0036] Furthermore, the clamping unit, which is formed as a rotating part, can rotate into a second position in the second clamping state that provides a bypass mode, in which the first engaging end clamps the first fluid connection part and the second fluid connection part.
[0037] Medical sampling devices may have locking or fixing mechanisms, particularly snap-fit mechanisms, which are configured and set to lock or fix the clamping unit in a first clamping state and / or lock or fix it in a second clamping state.
[0038] The locking or fixing mechanism, particularly the snap-fit mechanism, can be formed by a protruding (elastic or spring-like) portion of a preferred clamping unit, particularly a rotating part, which engages in a recessed portion of a preferred fixing part (such as a housing or tube holder).
[0039] According to one aspect of this disclosure, if the internal friction between the rotating part and the fixed part is configured to prevent the clamped tube unit from elastically resetting and shifting, an additional locking mechanism is not necessary. Furthermore, according to another aspect of this disclosure, when the rotating part is rotated using electrical components, a separate fixing mechanism is also not necessary because the motor inherently has a stopping effect. This is due to the fact that when the motor's power supply is cut off, the motor naturally stops moving due to internal resistance, friction, or the way the motor is designed to stop. Therefore, the motor's built-in stopping mechanism eliminates the need for an additional latching mechanism to stop its movement.
[0040] Silicone, TPU, and rubber have been identified as preferred materials for medical clamping tubes due to their flexibility, durability, and biocompatibility. Silicone exhibits high resistance to extreme temperatures, while TPU provides excellent elasticity and chemical resistance. Rubber offers a flexible and reliable seal.
[0041] This disclosure further relates to a system comprising a medical sampling device according to one of the above aspects, and a sample container, preferably further comprising an endoscope.
[0042] The system may further include a suction source (device) that can be directly or indirectly connected to a suction source connection interface, for example, via a tube or hose.
[0043] The suction source can be a vacuum pump, etc. There are also conceivable embodiments in which the suction source (device) is directly connected to the endoscope or a part of the endoscope. Attached Figure Description

[0067] Figure 1 This is an exploded perspective view of a sampling system or kit including a medical sampling device 2, an endoscope 4, and a sample container 6 according to a first embodiment. The medical sampling device 2 is connectable to the sample container 6 and the endoscope 4. The endoscope 4 includes an insertion cord 15 (shown only partially), the proximal end of which is connected to the handle of the endoscope, and the distal end of which is insertable into a patient's body cavity. A working channel 5 extends through the insertion cord to an opening at the distal end of the insertion cord. At the other end, the working channel 5 may extend inside the handle (as illustrated) and terminate at a suction connector 3. The suction connector 3 may be directly or indirectly connected to a suction source 13. In the illustrated example, the suction source 13 is fluidly connected to the medical sampling device 2 via a hose 17, which in turn prepares the suction connector 3 to be attached to the endoscope 4 for fluid connection to the working channel 5 of the endoscope 4. Suction through the endoscope can be controlled by a valve (not shown) operated by a suction button 7. The sample container 6 is further connectable to the medical sampling device 2. The distal end of the endoscope may further include a light source and a camera, which can be connected to a video processing device and a monitor 9 via cable 11, thereby allowing the operator to monitor the interior of the body cavity and the activities being performed.
[0068] Figure 2This is a perspective view of the medical sampling device 2 according to the first embodiment. The medical sampling device 2 is in a fully assembled state and is therefore compact and aesthetically pleasing. In the assembled state illustrated, the housing 28, sample container connection interface 14, endoscope connection interface 18, aspiration source connection interface 22, mechanical actuation unit 30, locking key 140, and cover 142 for the sample container connection interface 14 are visible. When engaged and fully assembled (i.e., when the endoscope 4 is connected to the endoscope connection interface 18), the locking key 140 locks the medical sampling device 2 to the endoscope 4, thus fixing the endoscope in a fixed position. The mechanical actuation unit 30 includes an L-shaped grooved section adapted for easy ergonomic touch / grip by the user. Furthermore, the aspiration source connection interface 22 is barbed for secure connection to the tubing. As can be seen, the cover 142 completely covers the fluid openings of the sample container interface 14 to protect these fluid openings from external contamination and other possible accidental influences.
[0069] Figure 3 This is an exploded view of the medical sampling device 2 according to the first embodiment. The medical sampling device 2 includes a sample container connection interface 14 disposed on a sample container attachment assembly 16, an endoscope connection interface 18 disposed on an endoscope attachment assembly 20, a housing 28, and a clamping valve 8 housed in the housing 28. The clamping valve 8 includes a suction source interface 22. The sample container attachment assembly 16, the housing 28, the clamping valve 8, and the endoscope attachment assembly 20 are all arranged along a longitudinal axis 26.
[0070] The clamping valve 8 includes a hose unit 10 and a pipe retainer 32. The hose unit can be clamped by the clamping unit 12, and the pipe retainer is configured to hold the hose unit 10. Further, the clamping unit 12 has a mechanical actuation unit 30, which is formed as a rod.
[0071] Sampling mode and bypass mode can be achieved by rotating the clamping unit 12, particularly the mechanically actuated unit 30 in the form of a rod, about a rotation axis (which generally corresponds to the longitudinal axis 26 in the first embodiment of the medical sampling device 2). The rotation of the mechanically actuated unit 30 (i.e., the clamping unit 12) causes the clamping unit 12 to rotate relative to the tube holder 32 and the housing 28. By rotating the clamping unit 12 relative to the housing 28 and the tube holder 32, the tubing unit 10 is clamped in a predetermined position. The clamping of the tubing unit 10 in the predetermined position defines the corresponding modes, namely, the sampling mode and the bypass mode. Preferably, the clamping unit 12, particularly the mechanically actuated unit 30, is rotated or rotatable by about 90° to switch between the sampling mode and the bypass mode. Preferably, the medical sampling device 2 allows only this one internal degree of freedom, namely the rotation of the clamping unit 12 about the longitudinal axis 26. Clamping can be achieved, for example, by squeezing or bending the tube to close the internal opening and cut off the flow.
[0072] Furthermore, the components or parts of the medical sampling device 2 can be divided into a fixed group and a rotatable group. The fixed group includes a tube holder 32, a tubing unit 10, a housing 28, a sample container attachment assembly 16, and an endoscope attachment assembly 20. The rotatable group includes a clamping unit 12. It should be noted that the system boundaries of the internal degrees of freedom do not include external degrees of freedom, such as the movement of the entire medical sampling device 2 or the entire kit including the medical sampling device 2, endoscope 4, and sample container 6 during use, assembly, disassembly, etc., and the movement of connecting components, for example, when the endoscope 4 is connected or disconnected, or when the sample container 6 is connected or disconnected.
[0073] Figure 4 A perspective view is shown of a sample container attachment assembly 16 having a sample container connection interface 14 of a medical sampling device 2 according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure. The sample container attachment assembly 16 includes a first tube connection portion 34 and a second tube connection portion 36, which are configured to connect to a flexible tube unit 10 (see...). Figure 9 The sample container attachment component 16, and in particular the sample container connection interface 14, is further configured to connect to the sample container 6 in a secure manner.
[0074] Preferably, the connection of the first tube connection 34 and the connection of the second tube connection 36 are achieved by a barbed fitting or connector, thereby enabling fluid connection between the sample container 6 and the hose unit 10, while also providing a fluid-impermeable seal, particularly when the hose unit 10 is connected to the first tube connection 34 and the second tube connection 36 of the sample container attachment assembly 16, for the safe separation of liquid from the environment (and vice versa).
[0075] Figure 5A perspective view is shown of an endoscope attachment assembly 20 having an endoscope connection interface 18 of a medical sampling device 2 according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure. The endoscope attachment assembly 20 includes a tube connection portion 38 configured to connect to a flexible tube unit 10.
[0076] Preferably, the connection of the tube connection 38 is achieved by a barbed fitting or connector, thus enabling fluid connection between the endoscope 4 and the hose unit 10, particularly between the endoscope attachment assembly 20 and the hose unit 10, especially when the hose unit 10 is connected to the tube connection 38, while also providing a fluid-impermeable seal for the safe separation of liquid from the environment (and vice versa). Alternatively, the hose unit can be configured for direct attachment to the endoscope, such as direct attachment to the suction connector 3.
[0077] Figure 6 A perspective view of the housing 28 according to a first embodiment of the medical sampling device 2 is shown. The housing 28 includes a housing endoscope opening 40, a housing aspiration source opening 42, a first housing sample container opening 44, a second housing sample container opening 46, an actuation unit opening 52, and preferably a rotary lock for preventing relative rotation of the housing 28 with respect to the tube holder 32. Here, the rotary lock is in the form of four tube holder recesses 54, as will be described below. Figure 7 Describe it.
[0078] The first shell sample container opening 44 and the second shell sample container opening 46 each include a curved portion 48 and a straight portion 50. The straight portion 50 forms a holding or supporting portion of the tube when clamped. The first shell sample container opening 44 is larger than the second shell sample container opening 46.
[0079] Preferably, the actuation unit opening 52 is a rectangular cutout in the cylindrical wall of the housing 28, and more preferably, it is configured to allow the mechanical actuation unit 30 to rotate substantially 90° (angle) in the assembled state of the medical sampling device 2.
[0080] Figure 7 A perspective view of a tube holder 32 according to a first embodiment of the medical sampling device 2 is shown. Preferably, the tube holder 32 includes four tube holder protrusions 56 configured to engage with tube holder recesses 54 of the housing 28 to form a rotation lock between the housing 28 and the tube holder 32.
[0081] Furthermore, the tube holder 32 includes a first tube holder endoscope opening 58, a second tube holder endoscope opening 60, a tube holder suction source opening 62, a first tube holder sample container opening (not shown), a second tube holder sample container opening 64, and a clamping unit recess 66.
[0082] Figure 8 A perspective view of a clamping unit 12 according to a first embodiment of a medical sampling device is shown. The clamping unit 12 includes a first clamping portion 68, a second clamping portion 70, and clamping claws 76.
[0083] The first clamping portion 68 and the second clamping portion 70 each include a curved portion 72 and a straight portion 74.
[0084] The gripper 76 is configured to be received in, for example, upon completion of assembly. Figure 7 The clamping unit recess 66 shown.
[0085] In addition, the clamping unit 12 includes a manual actuation unit 30, which is in the form of a rod and can be installed into the clamping unit 12 after the parts are assembled.
[0086] Figure 9 A perspective view of a tubular unit 10 according to a first, second, or fourth embodiment of the medical sampling device 2 is shown. The tubular unit 10 is an integral part and includes a first fluid connection portion 80 and a second fluid connection portion 86. The first fluid connection portion has a first endoscope end 82 and a first sample container end 84, and the second fluid connection portion has a second endoscope end 88, a second sample container end 90, and a suction source end 92.
[0087] Furthermore, the second fluid connection portion 86 of the hose unit 10 includes an endoscope portion 94, a sample container portion 96, and a suction source portion 98, which preferably combine to form a T-shape. These three portions converge at a common point 99, or in other words, extend from that common point.
[0088] When the medical sampling device 2 (including the tubing unit 10) Figure 9 ), shell 28 ( Figure 6 ), tube holder 32 ( Figure 7 ) and clamping unit 12 ( Figure 8 (e.g., in the assembled state) Figure 1 When the endoscope 4 is fluidly connected to the sample container 6 (as shown in the diagram), the first fluid connection 80 (or sample container inlet channel) is configured to fluidly connect the endoscope 4 and the sample container 6, and the second fluid connection is configured to fluidly connect the endoscope 4, the sample container 6, and the aspiration source (not shown). Thus, the first fluid connection 80 passes through the housing endoscope opening 40, the first tube holder endoscope opening 58, the first tube holder sample container opening (not shown), the first clamping portion 68, and the first housing sample container opening 44. Furthermore, the second fluid connection 86 passes through the housing endoscope opening 40, the second tube holder endoscope opening 60, the clamping claw 76, the aspiration source opening 62, the second tube holder sample container opening (64), the second clamping portion 70, and the second housing sample container opening 46.
[0089] Figure 10 A perspective view of a portion of the clamping valve 8 in sampling mode is shown. For better illustration of the clamping function, the hose unit 10 and housing 28 are omitted. As can be seen, the passage 100 is closed by the clamping claw 76, which clamps the hose unit 10 in a third clamping position within the endoscope portion 94. Therefore, the second fluid connection 86 is completely closed within the endoscope portion 94, allowing fluid to flow only through the first fluid connection 80, the sample container portion 96 located within the open passage 104, and the aspiration source portion 98. In other words, when bypassing the sample container 6, no fluid can flow directly from the endoscope 6 to the aspiration source (not shown).
[0090] When the corresponding curved portion of the clamping unit 12 moves closer to the corresponding curved portion of the tube holder 32 by the rotation of the clamping unit 12, a closed passage 100 is formed, thereby clamping the hose unit 10. Since the hose unit 10 is omitted, it can be seen that the opening left in the closed passage 100 is elliptical, or more precisely, pointed elliptical or almond-shaped.
[0091] When the clamping valve 8 is in the assembled state, the first position portion and the second position portion 78 of the clamping unit 12 are located outside the tube holder 32. In other words, the inner surfaces of the first position portion and the second position portion 78 of the assembly abut against the outer surface of the tube holder 32.
[0092] Figure 11 A perspective view of a portion of the clamping valve 8 in bypass mode is shown. For better illustration of the clamping function, the hose unit 10 and housing 28 are omitted. As can be seen, passage 106 is closed by a first clamping portion 68, which clamps the hose unit 10 in a first clamping position on the first fluid connection 80. Therefore, the first fluid connection 80 is completely closed. Further, passage 108 (hidden) is closed by a second clamping portion 70, which clamps the hose unit 10 within the sample container portion 96. Therefore, no fluid can flow from the sample container 6 to the aspiration source (not shown). By clamping the hose unit 10 in the described first and second clamping positions, fluid can only flow directly from the endoscope 4 to the aspiration source (not shown) through the open passage 110, completely bypassing the sample container 6. In other words, no fluid can flow directly from the endoscope 6 to the sample container 6.
[0093] The closed passage 106 is formed by a corresponding straight portion of the clamping unit 12 moving closer to the corresponding curved portion of the tube holder 32 through rotation of the clamping unit 12, thereby clamping the hose unit 10. Since the hose unit 10 is omitted, the closed passage 106 can be seen to be in the shape of a circular segment.
[0094] When the corresponding straight portion of the clamping unit 12 moves closer to the corresponding curved portion of the tube holder 32 by the rotation of the clamping unit 12, a closed passage 108 is formed, thereby clamping the hose unit 10. Since the hose unit 10 is omitted, it can be seen that the closed passage 108 is in the shape of a circular segment.
[0095] When the clamping valve 8 is in the assembled state, the first position portion and the second position portion 78 of the clamping unit 12 are located outside the tube holder 32. In other words, the inner surfaces of the first position portion and the second position portion 78 of the assembly abut against the outer surface of the tube holder 32.
[0096] Figure 12 This is an exploded cross-sectional view of the medical sampling device 2 according to the first embodiment, showing clamping positions 144, 146, and 148. Visible are the sample container attachment assembly 16, the endoscope attachment assembly 20, the housing 28, the clamping unit 12 with clamping claws 76, the tubing unit 10, and the tube holder 32, which is clamped therebetween in the assembled state. Further, Figure 12 The diagram illustrates three X-shaped crosses drawn at clamping positions 144, 146, and 148. It is worth noting that slight movement / displacement of clamping positions 144, 146, and 148 does not affect the function of the medical sampling device 2. In bypass mode, the tubing unit 10 is clamped / held in the first clamping position 144 and the second clamping position 146. In sampling mode, the tubing unit 10 is clamped / held in the third clamping position 148. Accordingly, the first clamping positions 144 and the second clamping positions 146 are open in sampling mode, and the third clamping position 148 is open in bypass mode. In each case, this results in only one possible flow of fluid from the endoscope 4 to the aspiration source 13.
[0097] Figure 13 This is a perspective view of the tubing unit 10 of the medical sampling device 2 according to the first embodiment, showing the clamping position 148 in the sampling mode. The tubing unit 10 includes a first fluid connection 80 and a second fluid connection 86. A black X-shaped cross indicates the corresponding closed fluid flow path. In the sampling mode shown, fluid flows along the fluid path 150 through the first fluid connection 80, and then along the fluid path 152 into and out of the sample container 6 (see...). Figure 1 ), and eventually along fluid path 154 toward suction source 13 (see Figure 1 )flow.
[0098] Figure 14A perspective view of the tubing unit 10 of the medical sampling device according to a first embodiment is shown, illustrating clamping positions 144, 146 in bypass mode. The tubing unit 10 includes a first fluid connection 80 and a second fluid connection 86. A black X-shaped cross indicates the corresponding closed fluid flow path. In the bypass mode shown, fluid flows along fluid path 150 through the second fluid connection 86 and then along fluid path 156 toward the suction source 13. Figure 1 )flow.
[0099] Figure 15 A perspective view of the medical sampling device 2 according to the second embodiment is shown, and Figure 16 An exploded view of a variant of this embodiment is shown. The medical sampling device 2 functions similarly to the first embodiment, but in this second embodiment, clamping is provided by pressing the tubing against the rear wall, as will be discussed below. However, the axis of rotation of the clamping unit 12 is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 26 and is indicated by arrow 111. As shown, the axis of rotation of the clamping unit 12 can be offset relative to axis 26, which has the advantage of facilitating assembly. This embodiment includes only a few parts and is simple to assemble, making it suitable for disposable medical devices where manufacturing costs are important.
[0100] In the second embodiment, the medical sampling device 2 includes a sample container connection interface 14, an endoscope connection interface 18, an aspiration source interface 22, a longitudinal axis 26, and a clamping valve 8. The clamping valve 8 includes a hose unit 10 and a tube holder 32, which can be clamped by the clamping unit 12. The tube holder serves as a fixing part and is configured to hold the hose unit 10. Additional fixing parts (e.g., housing 28 as in the first embodiment) are not necessary, however, are substantially conceivable according to the second embodiment. Further, the clamping unit 12 has a mechanical actuation unit, which is formed, for example, as a rotatable wheel or knob 158. Figure 16 ).
[0101] In a second embodiment of the medical sampling device 2, a sampling mode and a bypass mode can be achieved by rotating the clamping unit 12 about a rotation axis that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 26 and points out of the image plane. This rotation causes the clamping unit 12 to move relative to the tube holder 32, which gradually clamps the tubing unit 10 in a predetermined position. The predetermined position is defined by the corresponding mode (i.e., the sampling mode and the bypass mode). Preferably, the rotation angle between the two modes is approximately 90°.
[0102] Preferably, the medical sampling device 2 is allowed only one internal degree of freedom, namely, rotation about the axis of rotation.
[0103] Furthermore, the components or parts of the medical sampling device 2 can be divided into a fixed group and a rotatable group. The fixed group includes the tube holder 32, the tubing unit 10, the sample container attachment assembly 16, and the endoscope attachment assembly 20. The rotatable group includes the clamping unit 12. It should be noted that the system boundaries of the internal degrees of freedom do not include the external degrees of freedom, such as the movement of the entire medical sampling device 2 or the system or kit including the medical sampling device 2, the endoscope 4, and the sample container 6 during use, assembly, disassembly, etc.; and the movement of the connecting components, for example, when the endoscope 4 is connected or disconnected, or when the sample container 6 is connected or disconnected.
[0104] The clamping unit 12 further includes a narrow clamping portion 112 and a wide clamping portion 114, which are arranged substantially opposite to each other in diameter. The narrow clamping portion 112 is configured to clamp the hose unit 10 in a third position located on the endoscope portion 94. Figure 9 (as shown in the diagram) thus achieving the sampling mode. In the sampling mode, fluid is only allowed to flow from the endoscope 4 to the sample container 6 and from the sample container 6 to the aspiration source. The wide portion 114 is configured to clamp the hose unit 10 at a first position located on the first fluid connection portion 80 (as shown in the diagram). Figure 9 (as shown in the image) and clamped at the second position located on the sample container portion 96. Figure 9 (As shown in the diagram). In combination, the bypass mode is achieved by clamping the tubing portion 10 in both positions. In bypass mode, fluid is only allowed to flow directly from the endoscope 4 to the suction source.
[0105] Figure 16 An exploded perspective view of the medical sampling device 2 according to the second embodiment is shown. The endoscope attachment assembly 20, clamping unit 12, housing 28, aspiration source connection interface 22, cover 142 and knob 158 are visible.
[0106] The knob 158 includes a grooved section 160 and an extruder 162, and is adapted for easy rotation by a user. Further, the knob 158 is fixedly mounted on top of the clamping unit 12, such that rotation of the knob 158 causes rotation of the clamping unit 12 to set a sampling mode or a bypass mode. The extruder 162 is adapted to visually indicate the direction of fluid flow according to the corresponding mode (sampling mode or bypass mode)—flowing towards the sample container 6, or directly towards the suction source 13 (see...). Figure 1 ).
[0107] To achieve the corresponding sampling mode or bypass mode, the clamping unit 12 includes a narrow clamping portion 164 and a wide clamping portion 166. In the sampling mode, only the narrow clamping portion 164 clamps / secures the hose unit 10 in the third clamping position 148 (e.g., ...). Figure 12In the (as described in) and in the bypass mode, the wide clamping portion 166 clamps / secures the hose unit 10 in the first clamping position 144 and the second clamping position 146 (also Figure 12 (as described in the text).
[0108] Furthermore, the clamping unit 12 includes a pin 168 adapted to guide the clamping unit 12 and / or temporarily fix the clamping unit 12 in a rotational position according to a desired sampling mode or bypass mode.
[0109] The endoscope attachment assembly 20 is configured such that its barbed end 170 is connected to the flexible tube unit 10, and the side opposite to the barbed end 170 is connected to the endoscope 4 (see endoscope 4). Figure 1 Endoscope 4 (see) Figure 1 Secure / keep in place using locking key 140.
[0110] When assembled, the endoscope attachment assembly 20 is located in the orifice 172 of the housing 28, and the clamping unit 12 is located in the circular orifice 174 of the housing 28. Then, the knob 158 is located on top of the clamping unit 12.
[0111] Figure 17 A perspective view of a medical sampling device 2 according to a third embodiment is shown. Its function is similar to that of the first embodiment. However, the rotation axis of the clamping unit 12 is substantially rotatable, advantageously allowing for a wider range of construction freedom.
[0112] In a third embodiment, the medical sampling device 2 includes a sample container attachment assembly 16 with a sample container connection interface 14, an endoscope attachment assembly 20 with an endoscope connection interface 18, a suction source interface 22, a longitudinal axis 26, and a clamping valve 8. The clamping valve 8 includes a hose unit 10 and a tube holder 32, the hose unit being clamped by the clamping unit 12, and the tube holder being configured to hold the hose unit 10. The clamping plane is defined by the adjacent surfaces of the clamping unit 12 and the tube holder 32. The hose unit 10 is clamped substantially only within the clamping plane. In other words, in the third embodiment, there is substantially no axial distance between the clamping locations.
[0113] The hose unit includes at least three individual hoses 115 and pipe connectors 116, which are configured to connect the individual hoses 115 to achieve the same functional fluid connection as in the previous first and second embodiments.
[0114] The sampling mode and bypass mode can be achieved by rotating the clamping unit 12 about a rotation axis. This rotation causes the clamping unit 12 to move relative to the tube holder 32, which gradually clamps the hose unit 10 in a predetermined position. The predetermined position is defined by the corresponding mode (i.e., the sampling mode and the bypass mode). Preferably, the rotation angle between the two modes is less than or equal to 90°.
[0115] Preferably, the medical sampling device 2 is allowed only one internal degree of freedom, namely, rotation about the axis of rotation.
[0116] Furthermore, the components or parts of the medical sampling device 2 can be divided into a fixed group and a rotatable group. The fixed group includes the tube holder 32 (and a housing potentially similar to the housing 28 of the first embodiment), the tubing unit 10, the sample container attachment assembly 16, and the endoscope attachment assembly 20. The rotatable group includes the clamping unit 12. It should be noted that the system boundaries of the internal degrees of freedom do not include the external degrees of freedom, such as the movement of the entire medical sampling device 2 or the system or kit including the medical sampling device 2, the endoscope 4, and the sample container 6, for example, during use, assembly, disassembly, etc.; and the movement of the connecting components, for example, when the endoscope 4 is connected or disconnected, or when the sample container 6 is connected or disconnected.
[0117] Figure 18 A conceptual schematic diagram of a clamping valve prototype of the medical sampling device 2 according to the fourth embodiment in sampling mode is shown. This clamping valve prototype offers rocker switch-type operation, providing potentially user-friendly activation by shifting the actuating unit to one side or the other (which can be accomplished by the user with minimal effort using their thumb and without altering their grip on the endoscope), thus making this rocker switch-type operation advantageous. The clamping valve according to this embodiment can be configured to be bistable, meaning that the clamping valve is always clamped to the other side, thus the valve is in bypass mode or sampling mode.
[0118] In the fourth embodiment, the medical sampling device 2 includes a sample container attachment assembly 16 with a sample container connection interface 14, an endoscope attachment assembly 20 with an endoscope connection interface 18, a suction source interface 22, and a clamping valve 8. The clamping valve 8 includes a hose unit 10 and a tube holder 32, the hose unit being clamped by the clamping unit 12, and the tube holder being configured to hold the hose unit 10. Further, the clamping unit 12 has a mechanical actuation unit 30, which includes a clamp 122, a shaft 124, a rocker arm 126, a spring assembly 128, and a first connection interface and a second connection interface 130 serving as the clamping unit 12.
[0119] Shaft 124 rotatably connects clamp 122 to rocker arm 126, wherein a spring assembly is connected to clamp 122 and rocker arm 126 via a first connection interface and a second connection interface 130, preferably provided with riveting or bolting connection. Spring assembly 128 is configured to pull the first connection interface and the second connection interface 130 together in such a way that the clamping force of the hose unit 10 is sufficient to close the corresponding fluid connection within the hose unit 10.
[0120] In a fourth embodiment of the medical sampling device 2, sampling mode and bypass mode can be achieved by rocking or shifting the clamping unit 12 about a rotation axis that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 26 and points out of the image plane. This rotation causes the clamping unit 12 to move relative to the tube holder 32, which gradually clamps the tubing unit 10 in a predetermined position. The predetermined position is defined by the corresponding mode (i.e., sampling mode and bypass mode).
[0121] Preferably, the medical sampling device 2 is allowed only one internal degree of freedom, namely, rotation about the axis of rotation.
[0122] Furthermore, the components or parts of the medical sampling device 2 can be divided into a fixed group and a rotatable group. The fixed group includes the tube holder 32, the tubing unit 10, the sample container attachment assembly 16, and the endoscope attachment assembly 20. The rotatable group includes the clamping unit 12. It should be noted that the system boundaries of the internal degrees of freedom do not include external degrees of freedom, such as the movement of the entire medical sampling device 2 or the system or kit including the medical sampling device 2, the endoscope 4, and the sample container 6 during use, assembly, disassembly, etc.; and the movement of the connecting components, for example, when the endoscope 4 is connected or disconnected, or when the sample container 6 is connected or disconnected.
[0123] The clamping unit 12 further includes a narrow clamping portion 118 and a wide clamping portion 120. The narrow clamping portion 118 is configured to clamp the tubing unit 10 in a third position on the endoscope portion 94, thereby achieving a sampling mode. In the sampling mode, fluid is only allowed to flow from the endoscope 4 to the sample container 6 and from the sample container 6 to the aspiration source. The wide portion 120 is configured to clamp the tubing unit 10 in a first position on the first fluid connection portion 80 and in a second position on the sample container portion 96. Combined, by clamping the tubing portion 10 in these two positions, a bypass mode is achieved. In the bypass mode, fluid is only allowed to flow directly from the endoscope 4 to the aspiration source.
[0124] Figure 19 A perspective view of the medical sampling device 2 according to the fourth embodiment in bypass mode is shown.
[0125] As can be seen, the wide portion 120 clamps the tubing unit 10 in a first position on the first fluid connection portion 80 and in a second position on the sample container portion 96. Combined, by clamping the tubing unit 10 in these two positions, a bypass mode is achieved. In bypass mode, fluid is only allowed to flow directly from the endoscope 4 to the aspiration source.
[0126] Figure 20 A perspective view of the medical sampling device 2 according to a fourth embodiment is shown. The medical sampling device 2 is in a fully assembled state and is therefore compact and aesthetically pleasing. In the illustrated assembled state, the housing 28, sample container connection interface 14, endoscope connection interface 18, mechanical actuation unit 30, aspiration source connection interface 22, locking key 140, and cover 142 for the sample container connection interface 14 are visible. When engaged and fully assembled (i.e., when the endoscope 4 is connected to the endoscope connection interface 18), the locking key 140 locks the endoscope 4 in a fixed position. The mechanical actuation unit 30 includes a lever adapted for easy touch / grip by a user in an ergonomic manner to facilitate quick mode selection (sampling mode or bypass mode). Furthermore, the aspiration source connection interface 22 is barbed for secure connection to the tubing. As can be seen, the cover 142 completely covers the fluid openings of the sample container interface 14 to protect these fluid openings from external contamination and other possible accidental influences.
[0127] Figure 21 A side view of the locking mechanism 131 is shown. The locking mechanism 131 includes a rotatable portion or part 132, a fixed portion or part 134, four spring portions 136, and four recesses 138. The recesses 138 are located within the fixed portion or part 134 and are configured to receive the spring portions 136 in a mating manner. The locking mechanism is configured to temporarily fix the rotatable portion or part 132 relative to the fixed portion or part 134 in such a way that, when clamped, the elastic deformation of the hose unit 10 cannot cause the rotatable portion to rotate due to the elastic restoring force of the clamped hose unit 10. In a simpler form, there is only one spring portion and two recesses (one recess for the bypass position and one recess for the sampling position), or there is only one recess and two spring portions.
