The external converter comprises a USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface module, a first processing module, a second processing module, a plurality of third processing modules, a first SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) module, a plurality of second SATA modules and a plurality of SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface modules, and the first processing module is electrically connected with the USB interface module and the first SATA module respectively; the first processing module is electrically connected with the first SATA module, the second processing module is electrically connected with the first SATA module and each second SATA module, each third processing module is electrically connected with each second SATA module and each SAS interface module, the first processing module is used for converting USB signals into SATA signals, and the third processing module is used for converting the SATA signals into SATA signals. The second processing module is used for dividing one SATA signal into a plurality of SATA signals, and the third processing module is used for converting the SATA signals into SAS signals. The problem that in the prior art, a user needs to carry a PC end with a thunderbolt interface to be connected with the magnetic tape unit, and use is inconvenient is solved.
