ABSTRACT A network of metering systems is described. The network comprises a headend system and at least one metering system. Said at least one metering system comprises: at least one meter module for measuring the consumption of a resource; and a communication module connected to said at least one meter module and configured to communicate with the headend system. The headend system is configured to send commands to the communication module in order to control the availability of one or more functions of the at least one meter module and / or the communication module based on a configuration of one or more license files received by the headend system.
