Infusion pump control system and method for managing multiple infusion pumps in relay sequence

Abstract

A drug infusion system comprises a plurality of infusion pumps, including a first infusion pump and a second infusion pump, and a computing device. The computing device comprises a computer-readable non-transient storage medium and a processor coupled to the computer-readable non-transient storage medium.The processor is configured to control a plurality of modules to establish a relay sequence of the plurality of infusion pumps to sequentially administer to the patient the drugs associated with each of the plurality of infusion pumps, in response to the detection that the first infusion pump completes an infusion, automatically transfer the infusion status information from the first infusion pump to the second infusion pump in the relay sequence, activate the second infusion pump to begin infusing in accordance with the relay sequence, remove the first infusion pump from the relay sequence, and retain the operating parameters of the first infusion pump.
