Abstract
A geopolymer composition for the manufacture of decorative cladding pieces is described, comprising: between 40% and 90% by weight of powder from the industrial ceramic grinding process as an aluminosilicate ceramic substrate (Component A); between 5% and 25% by weight of Portland cement as a calcium precursor (Component B); between 10% and 50% by weight of aqueous potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution as a primary alkaline activator (Component C); between 5% and 25% by weight of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) solution as a secondary alkaline activator and source of soluble silica (Component D); and between 5% and 35% by weight of water (Component E).The present geopolymer composition enables the development of the final properties of the product without the need for subsequent firing, sintering or heat treatments; it also promotes the valorization of industrial ceramic by-products under the guidelines of the circular economy.
