Description

[0001] The invention relates to a belt grinding machine, preferably for grinding metallic workpieces, with a housing which has at least one cover surface, two side surfaces and a front and a rear end surface, wherein within the housing a grinding belt is guided over a motor-driven drive roller and a first deflection roller and a second deflection roller, wherein the grinding belt is accessible through a housing opening in the front end surface for grinding and through a housing opening in the cover surface for surface grinding of workpieces.

[0002] Such a belt grinding machine is known from CH 306 720 A.

[0003] The known belt grinding machine comprises a housing, two deflection rollers along which the grinding belt rotates, and two grinding areas defined by openings in the housing, one of which is designed for grinding, in particular external cylindrical grinding, and one for surface grinding of workpieces.

[0004] To support the rotating sanding belt during surface grinding, a tabletop is provided on which a rubber coating with a sliding layer is arranged. The rotating sanding belt moves relative to the sliding layer.

[0005] A similar belt sander is known from US Pat. No. 4,924,633 A, featuring two deflection pulleys and an adjustable guide device for a workpiece. This machine does not have a housing for the rotating sanding belt, allowing it to be accessed over a wide area.

[0006] Another similar belt sander is known from EP 1 552 903 A2.

[0007] DE 11 04 163 A discloses a belt sander with a pendulum-mounted feed roller. This is intended to prevent the feed roller from tilting and the resulting uneven pressure on the workpiece, thereby improving the quality of the resulting sanded surface.

[0008] DE 17 45 023 U discloses a belt sander that features an adjustable support table with a recess for setting the desired sanding depth. A finely adjustable contact roller is positioned above or below the recess. This enables easy and precise work.

[0009] Such belt grinders are used for grinding and / or polishing metal workpieces and are widely used, for example, in the processing of stainless steel pipes.

[0010] Belt grinders designed for surface grinding of metal workpieces are also known. Such belt grinders typically have a support table for supporting a workpiece, with a guide for guiding the workpiece, and a feed mechanism for automatically advancing the workpiece relative to the grinding belt. Such belt grinders can be used to flatten metal pipes, such as square tubes and other components, and machine them to size.

[0011] In contrast, belt sanders, in which the sanding belt is accessible through an opening in one end face of the housing, are generally used for manual processing of workpieces.

[0012] The invention is based on the object of creating a belt grinding machine that can be operated with low wear, safely and efficiently and can be used with greater versatility than conventional belt grinding machines.

[0013] This object is achieved according to the invention by a belt grinding machine having the features of claim 1.

[0014] The belt grinder according to the invention can, on the one hand, be used in a known manner in the area of an end face for grinding workpieces. On the other hand, the grinding machine according to the invention can be used on its upper side for surface grinding of workpieces, since the second deflection roller is arranged in such a way that the grinding belt in the area of the second deflection roller is directly accessible from the outside.

[0015] The object of the invention is thus completely solved.

[0016] For surface grinding, the attachment module is preferably mounted on top of the belt grinder. This allows surface grinding of workpieces with automatic feed.

[0017] In contrast to the sliding pieces known from the prior art, which supported the sanding belt near the cover surface, the second deflection roller now ensures direct support of the sanding belt near the opening in the cover surface. This allows workpieces that are moved forward toward the cover surface of the housing to be ground flat on their underside, with the sanding belt directly supported by the second deflection roller. This prevents damage to the sanding belt caused by friction against a support surface and prevents performance losses due to friction.

[0018] In a preferred development of the invention, fastening elements for fastening an attachment module are provided on the housing of the belt grinding machine, which has a feed roller assigned to the second deflection roller for feeding workpieces during surface grinding.

[0019] In conjunction with such an attachment module, the belt grinding machine according to the invention can also be used for surface grinding of workpieces with automatic feed.

[0020] In an additional development of the invention, at least one roller for rolling support for a workpiece is provided on the cover surface of the housing of the belt grinding machine.

[0021] This ensures easier, low-friction guidance of a workpiece during surface grinding.

[0022] In a further embodiment of the invention, at least one of the housing openings on the cover surface and front surface can be closed.

[0023] In this way, a high level of occupational safety can be ensured by ensuring that only the required housing opening is accessible from the outside, while the other is closed, thus reducing the risk of accidents.

[0024] In an additional development of the invention, the belt grinding machine has a stand on which the housing is rotatably mounted about a vertical axis.

[0025] This type of adjustment option further expands the range of applications of the belt sander.

[0026] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the belt grinding machine has a stand on which the housing is pivotably mounted about a horizontal axis.

[0027] The application range of the belt sander is thus expanded by an additional adjustment option.

[0028] In an additional development of the invention, guide elements are provided on the cover surface of the housing, preferably removably fastened, for guiding elongated workpieces in a direction parallel to the cover surface of the housing.

[0029] This enables precise machining of workpieces during flat grinding.

[0030] In an additional development of this design, the guide elements have guide surfaces that are parallel to one another and whose distance from one another is adjustable.

[0031] This allows for precise grinding of rectangular workpieces. It also enables vertical grinding of narrow workpieces.

[0032] In a preferred development of the invention, the belt grinding machine has an adjusting device for adjusting the position of the second deflection roller in relation to the cover surface.

[0033] In this way, the depth of engagement of the sanding belt can be adjusted during surface grinding.

[0034] In an advantageous development of the invention, the attachment module has an adjusting device for adjusting the distance between the feed roller and the sanding belt of the sanding machine.

[0035] In this way, adjustment to different heights of workpieces can be made.

[0036] According to a further embodiment of the invention, a guide for adjusting the feed roller in a direction perpendicular to the direction of extension of the sanding belt is provided on the top side of the surface sanding machine on the attachment module.

[0037] This allows for precise adjustment to different heights of workpieces.

[0038] According to a further embodiment of the invention, a guide for adjusting the feed roller in the extension direction of the sanding belt is provided on the top side of the surface sanding machine on the attachment module.

[0039] In this way, the grinding effect during surface grinding can also be influenced to a certain extent.

[0040] It is understood that the features of the invention mentioned above and those to be explained below can be used not in the respective combination specified, but also in other combinations without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0041] Further features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a preferred embodiment with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 a perspective view of a belt grinding machine according to the invention, onto which an add-on module according to the invention is placed, wherein for the purpose of easier recognition a lateral cover plate of the belt grinding machine and a cover plate in the area of a front face are removed and Fig. 2 a rear view of the belt sander including the add-on module according to Fig. 1.

[0042] Fig. Figure 1 shows a belt sander 12 according to the invention with an attachment module 14 mounted on top of the belt sander 12. The combination of belt sander 12 and attachment module 14 is designated as a surface sander with the number 10.

[0043] The belt grinding machine 12 has a housing designated overall by 16, which has a cover surface 18, two side surfaces 20, 22, a rear end surface 24, a front end surface 26 and a bottom surface 27. For better visibility, a cover plate 98 ( Fig. 2), which normally completely covers the side surface 20, in Fig. 1. Held within the housing 16 is an endless sanding belt 40 which is guided over a drive roller 34 at the rear end of the housing 16, a first deflection roller 36 in the region of the front end of the housing 16, and a second deflection roller 38. The second deflection roller 38 is arranged such that the sanding belt 40 guided over it protrudes upwards from a housing opening 42 through the cover surface 18 of the housing 16. The extent by which the sanding belt 40, which is guided over the second deflection roller 38 and protrudes upwards relative to the upper side of the cover surface 18 of the housing, can be adjusted by means of an adjusting device 47. In this way, a workpiece which is moved along the cover surface 18 of the housing 16 can be ground flat with a predetermined engagement depth by means of the sanding belt 40. The drive roller 34 is driven by an electric motor 96 ( Fig. 2) driven.

[0044] A housing opening 28 is provided in the area of the front end face 26, through which the grinding belt 40 is accessible in this area, particularly for manually processing workpieces. If the add-on module 14 is attached for surface grinding, the housing opening 28 is generally closed by an attached cover (not shown).

[0045] To adjust the belt tension, a tensioning device 56 is provided, which engages the drive roller 34. It can, for example, comprise a gas spring, as is known from EP 1 552 903 A2. A tensioning lever 100 can be used for actuation ( Fig. 2).

[0046] The belt grinder 12 can be rotated about a vertical axis. For this purpose, the base surface 27 of the housing 16 is mounted on a turntable 48. The turntable 48 can be locked in any desired rotational position by means of a locking device 50. Furthermore, the housing 16 can be pivoted about a horizontal axis 52. A locking device 54 is used to lock it in a desired pivoting position. The entire machine is thus mounted on a stand 17, allowing it to rotate about a vertical axis and also pivot a certain amount about the horizontal axis 52.

[0047] The belt grinder 12 can be used without the attachment module 14 as a normal belt grinder for grinding workpieces in the area of the housing opening 28. In addition, after opening a suitable housing cover, the housing opening 42 on the cover surface 18 can be exposed, so that grinding can also take place in this area. Although surface grinding is also possible using only the cover surface 18 of the housing 16 as a support surface for workpieces, it is advisable to also attach the attachment module 14 for surface grinding and to fasten a guide device, designated overall by 58, to the cover surface 18. The guide device 58 has two guide elements 60, 62 and 68, 70 facing one another in pairs. These guide elements 60, 62 and 68, 70 can be fastened by means of associated locking devices 64, 66 and 72, 74 and can be moved parallel to one another along associated slots. This allows workpieces to be guided between the guide elements 68, 70 or 60, 62 for surface grinding in the feed direction. This allows, for example, square tubes or other rectangular workpieces to be ground flat. Edgewise grinding of profiles on the flat end face is also possible.

[0048] When the add-on module 14 is attached, a controlled feed movement can also be achieved, which can be combined with a predetermined contact pressure.

[0049] The add-on module 14 is to be fastened by means of a rectangular hollow profile 76 on the side surface 22 at suitable attachment points, e.g. by means of screws in the form of manually operable locking devices ( Fig. 2). In the hollow profile 76 there is a slide 78 guided in the longitudinal direction of the hollow profile 76 by means of a threaded rod 80, which can be rotated by means of a crank 82. On the slide 78, a roller holder 84 is adjustable perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the hollow profile 76 by means of an adjusting device 86. On the roller holder 84, a feed roller 88 is mounted on both sides on bearings 90 ( Fig. 1) or 94 ( Fig. 2). On the side of the feed roller 88 opposite the bearing 90, a feed motor 92 is flanged via a gear. The feed roller 88 can thus be driven by the feed motor 92. The feed roller 88 can be moved by means of the carriage 78 in the longitudinal direction of the hollow profile 76, i.e., perpendicular to the cover surface 18 of the belt grinder 12. In addition, the adjusting device 86 enables adjustment of the feed roller 88 in the longitudinal direction of the cover surface 18. In addition, an adjustment of the angle of inclination of the support of the feed roller 88 with respect to the cover surface 18 can be provided, as indicated by the adjusting screw 93.

[0050] Thus, workpieces can be flat-ground between the feed roller 88 and the sanding belt 40 guided over the second deflection roller 38. The distance between the feed roller 88 and the cover surface 18 can be adjusted using the carriage 78 to accommodate different workpiece heights. The engagement depth of the sanding belt can be varied using the adjusting device 47 by adjusting the second deflection roller 38.

[0051] It is understood that when the add-on module 14 is attached, the front housing opening 28 is generally closed by an attachment. Conversely, when the sanding belt is used in the area of the housing opening 28 on the front end face 26, the housing opening 42 on the cover surface 18 is generally covered by a corresponding attachment.

[0052] In the cover surface 18 of the housing 16, a number of transverse slots are preferably provided through which rotatably mounted rollers 44, 46 project upwards in order to form a rolling support surface for workpieces during surface grinding.

[0053] The front area of the housing 16 of the belt grinder 12 is closed off below the housing opening 28 by a spark guard 30. If necessary, an extraction device 102 ( Fig.2). Furthermore, a connection piece with a suction opening 32 for connecting a suction line to the central suction system can be provided in the area of the rear end face 24.
