Abstract

Shield (1) for attachment to a cannula tube (12) of a tracheostomy cannula, the shield having a proximal side with a proximal surface (2) which, in use, faces the patient's neck, and a distal side with a distal surface (3) and an edge surface connecting the distal (3) and proximal surfaces (2), wherein the shield (1) has a central area (7, 8) with a central opening (6) through which the cannula tube (12) passes, and lateral areas (4, 4') adjoining the central section on both sides in the longitudinal direction, each having an eyelet (5, 5') for attaching a retaining strap, characterized in that the proximal surface (2) in the lateral areas (4, 4') each has a longitudinally convexly curved section and the central area (7, 8) of the proximal surface (2) has a section convexly curved perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, wherein the convex Curvature is prevented,that the edges defining the upper, lower and lateral areas (4, 4') of the shield (1) remain permanently in contact with the patient's neck.
