Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a broom with a broom handle which is inserted into a holding sleeve of a handle holder, which handle holder is held on the side of a brush body facing away from a bristle field, wherein the handle end region of the broom handle protruding beyond the holding sleeve is inserted into a holding opening in the brush body and held therein in a form-fitting manner.
[0002] It is already known to provide a holding opening in the brush body carrying the bristles on the side facing away from the bristle field, into which one end of the broom handle is inserted. Since the holding opening has only a small longitudinal extension due to the limited thickness of the brush body, and since high leverage forces can act on this comparatively short connection area, this connection easily loosens, and the broom handle often breaks off in this area as well.
[0003] Brooms of the type mentioned above have also been created, in which a handle holder with a retaining sleeve is mounted on the brush body, into which the broom handle is inserted and secured, for example, with a screw or nail. The handle holder and its retaining sleeve are formed from a thin sheet of metal. However, the disadvantage of such brooms is that the load on the handle holder is such that the broom handle can easily wobble, and the handle holder, which is made of a thin sheet of metal, is easily broken.
[0004] For example, US 2004 / 0000018 A1 already discloses a broom of the type mentioned above, comprising a broom handle inserted into the holding sleeve of a handle holder. A double-web-shaped connecting plate protrudes from both sides of the holding sleeve of the approximately T-shaped handle holder, with which the handle holder is held to the side of a brush body facing away from the bristle field.
[0005] The bristle handle is inserted into the holder's retaining sleeve in such a way that the end portion of the brush handle protruding beyond the retaining sleeve is inserted into a retaining opening in the brush body and held there in a form-fitting manner. The retaining sleeve, for example, provides two screw openings spaced apart in the direction of insertion, through which a fastening screw can be screwed into the broom handle in such a way that the broom handle is held immovably and firmly in the retaining sleeve.
[0006] The disadvantage, however, is that the leverage exerted by the long broom handle can exert high forces on the handle holder and the brush head. Furthermore, the solid wood typically used for the broom handle is subject to temperature-related shrinkage, which can result in the fastening screws between the handle holder and the broom handle becoming loose over time, rendering the broom unusable. Until then, the broom, consisting of the brush head, the handle holder, and the broom handle, forms a single unit that is difficult to transport and store due to the brush head protruding from both sides of the long broom handle.
[0007] US 3183540 A already discloses a broom with a broom handle whose externally threaded end is screwed into an internal thread in the brush body. For this purpose, the brush body of the previously known broom has two insertion openings arranged approximately at right angles to each other in a common longitudinal center plane, approximately in the middle of its longitudinal extension on the side of the brush head facing away from the bristle area. Each opening has such an internal thread and into which the broom handle can be optionally screwed.
[0008] In order to be able to fix the broom handle, which is usually made of wood, firmly but also replaceably to the brush head if the broom handle breaks off, for example, during use, the broom known from US 3 183 540 A is provided with a U-shaped handle holder which engages behind the brush head at an edge delimiting the bristle field and which has a fastening screw with a ring head on the central web of its U-shape which can be screwed into the broom handle with its free, self-tapping wooden thread section in such a way that the broom handle is secured with its external thread in the internal thread of the brush head in a rotationally fixed manner and the handle holder is firmly clamped between the broom handle and the brush head.
[0009] Although the broom known from US Pat. No. 3,183,540 A allows for the replacement of the broom handle if it breaks during use, the handle holder of the known broom does not have a sleeve that surrounds the broom handle in the area at risk of breakage, the risk of the broom handle breaking is by no means reduced with this known broom.
[0010] Furthermore, an implement coupling for coupling an implement is previously known from DE 202 13 798 U1. The implement coupling comprises a handle and a conical sleeve body on the implement side, into whose wide end a conical handle end can be inserted and in which the inserted handle end can be secured. The sleeve body is essentially closed in the circumferential direction and has a radial threaded portion with an internal thread, into which a clamping screw is screwed to secure the inserted handle end.
[0011] The object is therefore in particular to create a broom of the type mentioned at the outset which is characterized by a permanent, resilient and firm connection between the broom handle and the brush body, wherein the broom handle of the broom according to the invention should also be easy to remove from the handle holder if necessary and wherein subsequent tightening of the connection provided between the handle holder and the broom handle should also be made considerably easier.
[0012] The solution to this problem according to the invention in the broom of the type mentioned at the outset consists in particular in that the sleeve wall of the holding sleeve has at least one threaded opening with an internal thread, into which internal thread a clamping screw is screwed, which clamps and fixes the handle end region in the holding sleeve with its screw shaft.
[0013] The broom according to the invention has a brush body which, on its side facing away from the bristle field, carries a handle holder with a holding sleeve into which the broom handle is inserted. The broom handle has a handle end region which projects beyond the holding sleeve and is inserted into a holding opening in the brush body and held therein in a form-fitting manner. Since the handle end region is thus not only inserted into the holding opening in the brush body and held therein in a form-fitting manner, but is also connected to the brush body at a distance therefrom via the holding sleeve of the handle holder, and since the broom handle is thus connected to the brush body over a comparatively large area of its longitudinal extent, a firm, resilient, non-wobbling and thus permanent connection between the broom and the broom handle is achieved. In order to also allow subsequent tightening of the connection provided between the handle holder and the broom handle, the invention provides that the sleeve wall of the holding sleeve has at least one threaded opening with an internal thread, into which internal thread a clamping screw is screwed, which clamps and fixes the handle end area in the holding sleeve with its screw shaft.
[0014] It's possible that the holding opening extends through the brush body, and that the handle end inserted into the holding opening protrudes beyond the side of the brush body facing away from the handle holder. With this design, which utilizes the entire thickness of the brush body to anchor the handle end in the brush body, it may be necessary to accept that the handle end protrudes slightly into the bristle area.
[0015] If the end portion of the broom handle projecting into the holding opening has a shape that is largely complementary to the holding opening over its longitudinal extent, the holding opening can be designed as a blind hole in the brush body if the bristle field is to have a uniform and gap-free arrangement of the bristle bundle field.
[0016] The high load-bearing capacity of the connection between the broom handle, handle holder and brush body is further enhanced if the handle holder is made of metal.
[0017] In order to ensure that the broom handle is firmly anchored in the holding sleeve of the handle holder, it is advisable for the broom handle to be held in a form-fitting manner in the holding sleeve.
[0018] Further developments of the invention will become apparent from the following description in conjunction with the claims and the drawings. The invention is described in more detail below using a preferred embodiment:
[0019] It shows: Fig. 1: a broom shown in a perspective view with a broom handle which is inserted into a holding sleeve on the brush body of the broom and with its handle end portion projecting beyond the holding sleeve into a holding opening on the brush body, Fig. 2: the broom Fig. 1 in an exploded perspective detail view and Fig. 3: the broom from the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 in a partially sectioned side view.
[0020] In the Fig. 1 to 3 show a broom 1, which is designed here as a sweeping broom. The broom 1 has a broom handle 2, shown here only in abbreviated form, which is inserted into the holding sleeve 3 of a handle holder 4. The handle holder 4 is held on the side of a brush body 6 facing away from the bristle field 5 of the broom 1. The brush body 6, made of plastic or, for example, wood, has an elongated or rectangular outline and a board-like shape. On the flat side of the brush body 6 facing away from the handle holder 4, the bristles 7, only schematically indicated here, are held in bundles as bristle bundles 8 in the brush body 6, where they form the bristle field 5.
[0021] The handle holder 4, preferably formed from a single-piece sheet metal blank, is T-shaped, with the crosspiece of this T-shape preferably being releasably held on the brush body 6. The crosspiece of the T-shaped handle holder 4 is designed as a holding plate 9, each of which has a through-hole 10, 11, preferably open at the edge, at its opposite plate ends. Each through-hole 10, 11 is penetrated by at least one fastening screw 12, which can be screwed into a screw-in opening 13 in the brush body 6.
[0022] The handle end region protruding beyond the holding sleeve 3 is inserted into a holding opening 14 in the brush body 6 and is preferably held therein in a form-fitting manner. Since the handle end region of the broom handle 2 is thus not only inserted into the holding opening 14 in the brush body 6 and held therein in a form-fitting manner, but can also be connected to the brush body 6 at a distance therefrom via the holding sleeve 3 of the handle holder 4, and since the broom handle 2 is thus connected to the brush body 6 over a comparatively large area of its longitudinal extent, a firm, resilient, non-wobbling and thus permanent connection is achieved between the broom handle 2 and the handle holder 4, as well as between the handle holder 4 and the brush body 6, and ultimately between the broom handle 2 and the brush body 6.
[0023] The broom handle 2 is held immovably in the longitudinal direction of the handle in the holding sleeve 3. For this purpose, at least one through-hole 15 is provided in the holding sleeve 3, through which a fastening means penetrates and engages the broom handle 2. The fastening means can, for example, be a screw screwed into the broom handle 2 or a nail hammered into the broom handle 2. In the embodiment shown here, the at least one through-hole 15 is designed as a threaded opening provided in the sleeve wall of the holding sleeve 3, which has an internal thread, into which internal thread a clamping screw 16 is screwed, which, with its screw shaft 17, clamps and fixes the handle end region of the broom handle 2 in the holding sleeve 3.
[0024] In the partially sectioned side view according to Fig. 3 it can be seen that the holding opening 14 is designed as a blind hole in the brush body 6. In Fig.3 is shown by dash-dotted lines that the holding opening 14 provided in the brush body 6 can also penetrate the brush body 6 and that the handle end region inserted into the holding opening 14 and shown here extended by dashed lines can protrude beyond the flat side of the brush body 6 facing away from the handle holder 4.
[0025] The design of a broom 1 shown here is characterized by the resilient and permanently strong connection between the broom handle 2 and the brush body 6.
