Abstract
This invention provides an image processing system camera and associated operating methods comprising a multicore processor, a high-speed, high-resolution imager, a field-of-view expander (FOVE), an autofocus lens, and a preprocessor connected to the imager for preprocessing the image data. This preprocessor provides the acquisition and processing speed as well as the image resolution that are particularly desirable in a variety of applications. This arrangement effectively scans objects that require a wide field of view, vary in size, and move relatively quickly with respect to the system's field of view. This image processing system incorporates a physical package with a variety of physical interrelationships to support various options and control functions. The package effectively dissipates internally generated heat by arranging components to optimize heat transfer to the environment and incorporating heat-dissipating structures (e.g., fins) to facilitate such transfer. The system also enables a variety of multicore processes to optimize both image processing and system operation, as well as to balance the workload (i.e., autocontrol tasks).
