Abstract

Control system for a vehicle (1) comprising: an electric motor (2) which is connected to a vehicle axle (4) in order to transmit power; a generating system (8) for electrical power; a battery (7) configured to supply electrical power to the electric motor (2) and which can be charged by the electrical power generation system (8) and from outside the vehicle (1); and an electronic control unit (20) configured to perform EV operation, in which the electric motor (2) is operated while the electrical power generation system (8) is stopped when the state of charge (SOC) of the battery (7) is higher than a predetermined first setting value (CS1), and to perform HV operation, in which the electric motor (2) is operated while the electrical power generation system (8) is operated when the SOC of the battery (7) is lower than the first setting value (CS1), wherein the electronic control unit (20) is further configured such that it continues EV operation even when the SOC of the battery (7) falls below the first setting value (CS1), if at the time of EV operation it is judged that an EVSOC forecast value (PSOCEV) is maintained equal to or higher than a second setting value (CS2) that is lower than the first setting value (CS1), wherein the EVSOC forecast value (PSOCEV) corresponds to a forecast value of the SOC of the battery (7) assuming the continuation of EV operation from the current location (PC) to the destination (PD), wherein the electronic control unit (20) is further configured such that, if it is assessed that the EVSOC forecast value (PSOCEV) will fall below the second setting value (CS2), it switches from EV operation to HV operation if the SOC of the battery (7) falls below a third setting value (CS3) that is lower than the first setting value (CS1) and higher than the second setting value (CS2); and wherein the electronic control unit (20) is further configured to set the third setting (CS3) such that an HVSOC forecast value (PSOCHV) is maintained equal to or higher than the second setting (CS2), wherein the HVSOC forecast value (PSOCHV) corresponds to a forecast value of the SOC of the battery (7) assuming that EV operation will continue from the current location (PC), then switch from EV operation to HV operation if the SOC of the battery (7) falls below the third setting (CS3), and then continue HV operation to the destination (PD).
