Description

[0001] The invention relates to a bulkhead cross member mounting structure, and more particularly to a bulkhead cross member mounting structure capable of maximizing an interior space.

[0002] In order to utilize the interior space of a vehicle, it is necessary to move the driver's seat forward.

[0003] When the driver's seat is moved forward, the front door opening flange also moves forward, and the space between the front door hinge and the opening flange is insufficient.

[0004] Therefore, it is difficult to configure the mounting direction of the commonly used bulkhead cross member as the width direction of the vehicle in order to move the driver's seat forward.

[0005] To solve this problem, it is necessary to mount the firewall cross member in the T-direction (vehicle body longitudinal direction) of the vehicle body, however, it is required to improve the R&H (ride and handling) and impact performance due to the lack of vehicle body width direction connectability with the external reinforcement.

[0006] In addition, when mounting in the T-direction (vehicle body longitudinal direction), the space behind the mounting section cannot be utilized, so it is necessary to improve the shape for forming the space for electrical component configuration.

[0007] Furthermore, when assembling in the T direction, the bulkhead cross member is connected to the bulkhead, so that the sealing line is complicated and the water sealing performance is insufficient.

[0008] Various aspects of the invention are directed to providing a firewall cross member mounting structure that improves vehicle body widthwise connectivity with the outer rail while mounting the firewall cross member in the vehicle body lengthwise direction to maximize interior space.

[0009] Furthermore, the invention is directed to providing a bulkhead cross member mounting structure that ensures space for various electronic equipment configurations and improves water sealing performance.

[0010] A dash cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention may include: a front bracket having a mating surface that mates with a dash cross member, a front pillar lower inner reinforcement having a lower reinforcement connecting portion inclined to be connected to a front inner panel, and a guide bracket provided between the front bracket and the front pillar lower inner reinforcement, wherein the guide bracket has a bolt guiding portion (e.g., a screw guiding portion) formed in a longitudinal direction of a vehicle body and guides a connecting bolt (e.g., a connecting screw) that connects the dash cross member (or is connected to the dash cross member).

[0011] A mating surface bolt hole (e.g., a mating surface screw hole) through which the connecting bolt passes may be formed in the mating surface of the front bracket, and a lower reinforcement bolt hole (e.g., a lower reinforcement screw hole) through which the connecting bolt passes may be formed in the lower front pillar inner reinforcement.

[0012] The bulkhead cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention may further include a weld nut mounted adjacent to the lower reinforcement bolt hole and engaging with the connecting bolt passing sequentially through the mating surface bolt hole, the bolt guide portion, and the lower reinforcement bolt hole.

[0013] The front bracket may have a first front bracket connecting surface curved from the mating surface to connect with the front inner panel and a second front bracket connecting surface curved from the mating surface to engage with the guide bracket.

[0014] A front bracket guide opening through which the guide pin (e.g. the guide screw) of the bulkhead cross member passes can be formed in the mating surface of the front bracket.

[0015] The guide holder may include a guide holder body engaged with the second front holder connecting surface and a guide holder connecting surface curved from the guide holder body and connected to the front inner panel.

[0016] A guide holder guide opening through which the guide pin of the bulkhead cross member passes may be formed in the guide holder.

[0017] The bolt guide portion may be formed by flanging (or rolling or curling) an upper and a lower portion of the guide holder body.

[0018] The lower front pillar inner reinforcement may further include a support surface formed by bending from the lower reinforcement connecting portion and in contact with the guide holder, and having a lower reinforcement bolt hole through which the connecting bolt passes.

[0019] A lower reinforcement guide opening through which the guide pin of the bulkhead cross member passes can be formed in the lower front pillar inner reinforcement.

[0020] A reinforcing bead may be formed on the lower reinforcement connecting portion of the lower front pillar inner reinforcement.

[0021] The firewall cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention may further include a hinge reinforcement coupled to the lower front pillar inner reinforcement, wherein the front inner panel is disposed between the hinge reinforcement and the lower front pillar inner reinforcement.

[0022] The hinge reinforcement may include a reinforcement body connected to a front outer panel, a reinforcement flange connected to the lower front pillar inner reinforcement, and a reinforcement side connecting the reinforcement body and the reinforcement flange.

[0023] The bulkhead cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention may further include an outer reinforcement provided between the hinge reinforcement and the front outer panel.

[0024] With the dash cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, it is possible to maximize the interior space by mounting the dash cross member in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body, and it is possible to improve the vehicle body width direction connectability with the exterior reinforcement.

[0025] Furthermore, with the dash cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, a space for various electronic equipment configurations can be ensured, and the water sealing performance can be improved.

[0026] Furthermore, the effects achievable or foreseeable by the exemplary embodiments of the invention are disclosed directly or implicitly in the detailed description of the exemplary embodiments of the invention. [0040] Fig. 1 is a front view of a firewall cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention.

[0041] With reference to Fig. 1, in a dash cross member mounting structure 10 according to various exemplary embodiments according to various aspects of the invention, the engagement direction of a connecting bolt 22 that couples a dash cross member 20 to a vehicle body faces a front side of the vehicle body, and thereby the dash cross member 20 is connected to the vehicle body. This allows the dash cross member 20 to be relatively displaced in the forward direction of the vehicle body, making it possible to secure the interior space of the vehicle.

[0042] Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a bulkhead cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention.

[0043] With reference to the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, the dash cross member mounting structure 10 according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention may include a front bracket 30 in contact with the dash cross member 20, a front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70 connected to a front inner panel 110, and a guide bracket 50 provided between the front bracket 30 and the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70.

[0044] Fig. 3 is a partial perspective view of a front wall cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, and Fig. 4 is a partial perspective view of a front wall cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, excluding the front inner panel in Fig. 3.

[0045] Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 are partially exploded perspective views of a firewall cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention.

[0046] With reference to the Fig. 1 to Fig. 6, the front holder 30 has a fitting surface 32 ( Fig. 7) which mates with the surface of the bulkhead cross member 20. The mating surface 32 mates with the bulkhead cross member 20 and can support the bulkhead cross member 20.

[0047] The guide bracket 50 may include a bolt guide portion 54 formed in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body to guide the connecting bolt 22 coupled to the dash cross member 20. Here, the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body does not mean a direction completely parallel to the vehicle body longitudinal direction thereof, but a concept that includes a direction inclined to the forward direction of the vehicle body.

[0048] The front pillar inner lower reinforcement 70 has a lower reinforcement connecting portion 72 inclined to connect to the front inner panel 110. That is, the lower reinforcement connecting portion 72 enables the coupling relationship of the dash cross member 20 to be changed from the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body to the longitudinal and width directions thereof.

[0049] A mating surface bolt opening 34 through which the connecting bolt 22 passes may be formed in the mating surface 32 of the front bracket 30, and a lower reinforcement bolt opening 74 through which the connecting bolt 22 passes may be formed in the lower front pillar inner reinforcement 70.

[0050] A firewall cross member mounting structure 10 according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention may further include a weld nut 84 that engages the connecting bolt 22 by being coupled adjacent to the lower reinforcement bolt opening 74.

[0051] That is, the connecting bolt 22 connected to the dash cross member 20 is connected to the weld nut 84 by passing through the mating surface bolt hole 34, the bolt guide portion 54, and the lower reinforcement bolt hole 74. Therefore, the dash cross member 20, the front bracket 30, the guide bracket 50, and the front pillar lower reinforcement 70 can be integrally connected.

[0052] The front bracket 30 may have a first front bracket connection surface 36 curved from the mating surface 32 and connected to the front inner panel 110, and a second front bracket connection surface 38 curved from the mating surface 32 to engage the guide bracket 50. That is, the front bracket 30 may be welded to the front inner panel 110 by the first front bracket connection surface 36 and to the guide bracket 50 by the second front bracket connection surface 38.

[0053] A front bracket guide opening 40, through which a guide pin 24 of the bulkhead cross member 20 passes, can be formed in the mating surface 32 of the front bracket 30.

[0054] The guide holder 50 may include a guide holder body 52 engaging the second front holder connection surface 38, and a guide holder connection surface 56 curved on the guide holder body 52 and connected to the front inner panel 110. That is, the guide holder 50 may be welded to the front inner panel 110 via the guide holder connection surface 56.

[0055] The guide holder 50 may have a guide holder guide opening 58 through which the guide pin 24 of the end wall cross member 20 passes. The guide holder guide opening 58 may be formed by drilling (e.g., by deburring).

[0056] The bolt guide portion 54 can be formed by crimping an upper and a lower portion of the guide holder body 52, and therefore the bolt guide portion 54 can be easily formed.

[0057] The lower front pillar inner reinforcement 70 may further include a support surface 76 formed by bending from the lower reinforcement connecting portion 72, in contact with the guide bracket 50, and having a lower reinforcement bolt hole 74 through which the connecting bolt 22 passes. That is, the lower front pillar inner reinforcement 70 may be welded to the guide bracket 50 through the support surface 76.

[0058] A lower reinforcement guide opening 80 through which the guide pin 24 of the bulkhead cross member 20 passes may be formed in the lower front pillar inner reinforcement 70.

[0059] The guide pin 24 is inserted through the front bracket guide opening 40, the guide bracket guide opening 58 and the lower reinforcement guide opening 80 to facilitate the initial coupling of the bulkhead cross member 20.

[0060] A reinforcement bead 82 may be formed in the lower reinforcement connecting portion 72 of the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70. The reinforcement bead 82 may enhance the connection strength between the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70 and the front inner panel 110. That is, the bending strength between the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70 and the front inner panel 110 may be increased by welding the lower reinforcement connecting portion 72 to the front inner panel 110 and forming the reinforcement bead 82.

[0061] Fig. 7 is a section along the line VII-VII in Fig. 2, and Fig. 8 is a section along the line VIII-VIII in Fig. 2.

[0062] With reference to the Fig. 1 to Fig. 8, the dash cross member mounting structure 10 according to the exemplary embodiment of the invention may further include a hinge reinforcement 90 coupled to the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70 with the front inner panel 110 disposed therebetween.

[0063] The hinge reinforcement 90 may include a reinforcement body 92 connected to a front outer panel 120, a reinforcement flange 94 connected to the lower front pillar inner reinforcement 70, and a reinforcement side 96 connecting the reinforcement body 92 and the reinforcement flange 94.

[0064] The bulkhead cross member mounting structure 10 according to the exemplary embodiment of the invention may further include an outer reinforcement 112 mounted between the hinge reinforcement 90 and the front outer panel 120.

[0065] An inner hinge pin hole 98 is formed in the reinforcement flange 94 of the hinge reinforcement 90, an inner lower reinforcement pin hole 86 is formed in the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70, and an inner connecting pin (e.g., an inner connecting bolt) 88 can be inserted into the inner lower reinforcement pin hole 86 and the inner hinge pin hole 98. Accordingly, the front pillar lower inner reinforcement 70, the front inner panel 110, and the hinge reinforcement 90 can be integrally connected to each other by the inner connecting pin 88. Furthermore, the hinge reinforcement 90 can be connected to the outer reinforcement 112 and the front outer panel 120 to improve the vehicle body width-direction connectability of the dash cross member 20.

[0066] With reference to Fig. 2, in the exemplary embodiment of the invention, the force transmission path through which the dash cross member 20 is connected to the vehicle body may include a path A that is routed to the front inner panel 110 via the dash cross member 20, the front bracket 30, the guide bracket 50, and the lower reinforcement connecting portion 72 of the front pillar lower reinforcement 70. Furthermore, another force transmission path may include a path B that is routed to the hinge reinforcement 90 via the dash cross member 20, the front bracket 30, the guide bracket 50, and the front pillar lower reinforcement 70.

[0067] Therefore, with the dash cross member mounting structure 10 according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, the width direction strength of the vehicle body is ensured, so that an improvement in R&H (ride and handling) performance can be expected.

[0068] Furthermore, with the firewall cross member mounting structure 10 according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, the impact load in front of the vehicle is distributed to the firewall cross member 20 during a vehicle collision.

[0069] Fig. 9 is a partial perspective view of a vehicle body to which a firewall cross member mounting structure according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention is applicable.

[0070] With reference to Fig.9, the dash cross member mounting structure 10 according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention has a simple configuration and can reduce the overall volume, ensuring a space between the dash cross member mounting structure 10 and an instrument panel 130. That is, the existing space can be used as a parts space 150, for example, a space for a transmission control unit (TCU), a sensor control unit (SCU), front wiring, floor wiring, and the like.

[0071] Moreover, according to various exemplary embodiments of the invention, a space is secured between the dash cross member mounting structure 10 and the instrument panel 130, so that a sealing line 140 of the instrument panel 130 can be relatively simple, and the sealing work can be relatively easier.

[0072] For ease of explanation and accurate definition of the appended claims, the terms "top," "bottom," "inside," "outside," "front," "rear," etc., are used to describe features of the exemplary embodiments with reference to the positions of those features as shown in the figures. It is further understood that the term "connect" or variations thereof refer to both direct and indirect connection.
