Device and method for the treatment and purification of water and their use

Abstract

Water treatment and purification device comprising a reactor with a stainless steel reactor chamber and a gas inlet and a gas outlet, with a UV radiation source located in the reactor chamber emitting radiation with wavelengths around 254 nm and 185 nm, wherein the surface of the reactor chamber consists of a polished stainless steel metal alloy as a catalytically active material for generating reactive oxygen species, and wherein reactive oxygen species are generated by the radiation in a gas stream of air or oxygen or a mixture of air and oxygen introduced into the reactor chamber through the gas inlet, the gas stream containing the reactive oxygen species is passed out of the reactor chamber through the gas outlet and is brought into contact with the water to be purified.
