Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting manipulation of an internal combustion engine (1), wherein - a lambda sensor (3) determines a lambda value, - a first detection device (4) detects a quantity of fuel injected into the internal combustion engine (1), - a second detection device (5) detects a mass of air introduced into the internal combustion engine (1), - an engine control unit (6) calculates a corresponding air mass from the determined lambda value and the detected and injected amount of fuel, - the engine control unit (6) compares the calculated air mass with the air mass detected by the second detection device (5) and determines a deviation, - the engine control unit (6) evaluates at least one further parameter when a deviation reaches or exceeds a predefined limit value, - the engine control unit (6) only triggers a signal for suspected manipulation if the deviation reaches or exceeds the predefined limit value and at least one other parameter also indicates suspected manipulation.
