The invention relates to an electric drive system (10) for a motor vehicle, comprising a first electric machine (18) having a first rotor (20) rotatable about a first rotor axis (R1), a second electric machine (26) having a second rotor (28) rotatable about a second rotor axis (R2), a differential gear (32) rotatable about a differential axis (DD) having a differential input shaft (34), a first differential output shaft (36) and a second differential output shaft (38), and a first planetary gear set (40) comprising a first element, a second element and a third element. A second planetary gear set (50) comprising a fourth element, a fifth element and a sixth element is provided. A first switching element (K1) is provided, which is configured to couple the first rotor (20) to the differential input shaft (34) in a torque-transmitting manner.A housing (24) is provided.
