Abstract
A simple procedure for detecting a naval vessel that is not transmitting AIS signals is to be developed. The new computer-implemented procedure for detecting a naval vessel (S1, S2) that is not transmitting Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals comprises the following steps: a) Defining an observation area and an observation period, b) Receiving AIS data for the observation area and observation period from an AIS data provider, c) Where the received AIS data includes identification data for AIS-transmitting vessels and their respective time-related position data, d) Calculating a course (K1, ... K5) for each of the AIS-transmitting vessels based on their respective time-related position data, e) Detecting evasive maneuver segments (A1, ... A5) within one of the respective course courses (K1, ... K5), if any, f) Calculating a time-related Bypass point (U1, ...U5) of each of the identified evasive maneuver sections (A1, ... A5), g) classification of each of the calculated, time-related bypass points (U1, ... U5) as time-related points representing a naval vessel (S1, S2), hereinafter referred to as naval vessel representation points (M1, ... M5), if the bypass points (U1, ... U5) are not available as points from stored position data of known objects.
