Abstract

This section describes techniques for L2 atomic programs. For example, a processing unit comprises a memory with banks, an arithmetic logic unit (ALU) connected to the banks, and circuitry for executing multiple operations in a single pass. The circuitry defines miniprograms for the ALU, encodes a payload containing the program using a user-defined instruction set architecture, transmits an atomic message with the encoded payload and a base address to the banks, and executes the program on the data in the banks using the ALU. The atomic message can be of type "program" or "program with return". The L2 bank decodes the operations sequentially, performs mathematical operations or comparisons, and returns a target value for type "program with return". This approach enables efficient execution of multiple operations over a data range with lower latency.
