The invention relates to a method for operating a storage container (100) for storing foodstuffs, wherein the storage container (100) can be connected to at least one mobile device (104) via a wireless connection for data transmission, wherein the method comprises a step of receiving data via the wireless connection between the mobile device (104) and the storage container (100), wherein the data represents information about the contents of the storage container (100) provided by a person, a step of storing the data on a storage device (107) of the storage container (100), a step of establishing a further wireless connection between the storage container (100) and at least one further mobile device (114) for data transmission, and a step of providing the data to the further mobile device (114) via the further wireless connection.
