Abstract

The presented invention relates to a method (100) for determining a state of a fuel cell system (200), wherein the method (100) comprises: - measuring (101) a fill level of a water separator (203) of the fuel cell system (200) with water using a fill level sensor (207), - comparing (103) the measured fill level with an expected value for the fill level, - assigning (105) a state of the fuel cell system (200) to a deviation of the measured fill level from the expected value using an assignment scheme, - outputting (107) the state assigned to the deviation.
