Abstract

A pulse-width modulated signal (26) is proposed for controlling heating elements (2, 3) of an electric instantaneous water heater (1) by means of electronic components with a period (16), wherein within the period (16) a transition (29) occurs from a first pattern (14) with a first average power (31) to a second pattern (15) with a second average power (32), and an intermediate pattern ZM is present between the first pattern (14) and the second pattern (15), which sets an intermediate power in a range between the first power (31) and the second power (32). Furthermore, an instantaneous water heater (1), a method for operating it, and a computer program product are described. The invention makes it possible to significantly reduce the flicker that occurs during the operation of the instantaneous water heater (1).
