Marking device for marking a transport container, comprising a carrier disc (1) and a cover disc (2) connected to the carrier disc (1) and movable relative to the carrier disc (1) with a viewing window (3), wherein the carrier disc (1) has a first marking area (4) and a second marking area (6), and the first marking area (4) comprises several optically perceptible, distinct identification features (5), characterized in that the second marking area (6) has several machine-readable codes (7), wherein each code (7) is assigned to exactly one identification feature (5) of the first marking area (4), and the viewing window (3) is designed such that all identification features (5) of the first marking area (4) are visible, and the viewing window (3) reveals exactly one machine-readable code (7), while all other machine-readable codes (7) are concealed.
