Abstract
A battery cell (10) has an electrode stack (15) with a layered structure stacked along a longitudinal axis of the battery cell (10), the layered structure comprising at least two cell units (20, 20'). Each cell unit (20, 20') has two electrodes in the form of an anode and a cathode, as well as a separator layer (25, 25') for electrical separation of the electrodes, each electrode having a metallic current collector layer (21, 23, 21', 23') for electrical connection of the electrodes to a positive terminal (12, 13) or negative terminal (11) of the battery cell (10). The anode has a layer with an active material (24, 24') for the anode and the cathode has a layer with an active material (22, 22') for the cathode, wherein the cell units (20, 20') are arranged in the electrode stack (15) in such a way that those layers with the active material (24, 24') of the anode and those of the cathode are the active material (22, 22') of the cathode.each of the layers containing the active material (22, 22') of the cathode are adjacent to each other from neighboring cell units (20, 20').
