The invention relates to a method (100) for operating a pedal-driven vehicle (200), comprising a gearshift (201) for providing a variable gear ratio, at least one manually operable control element (202) for actuating a brake (203) of the pedal-driven vehicle (200), and a control unit (204), the method (100) comprising: - detecting (110) an actuation of the control element (202) and - adjusting (120) at least one operating parameter of the gearshift (201) in response to the actuation of the control element (202).
