Abstract

A field device (10) for an industrial plant comprises at least one capacitive control element (30) with which an operating mode of the field device (10) can be set, and a processor (32) that is coupled to the at least one capacitive control element (30). The processor (32) is configured to execute an operation of the capacitive control element (30) only if an enable signal has been triggered, based on an actuation pattern or an external enable signal. Furthermore, a method for setting an operating mode of a field device (10) is described.
