Door protection assistant, procedure and motor vehicle

Abstract

A door protection assistant and a procedure for preventing collisions between a vehicle door and obstacles in the vicinity when opening the door are proposed. For this purpose, sensors gather information about potential obstacles in the vicinity of the vehicle door, and especially within the door's swing area. Information such as the type and position of the obstacle is determined from the sensor data. A risk assessment can then be performed. Depending on the data gathered, the force required to open the vehicle door can be influenced via an actuator, thus preventing the user from bringing the vehicle door into contact with an obstacle, if possible.
