Abstract

A method for characterizing an energy storage device of an electrically powered motor vehicle by a bidirectional charging and discharging process; wherein the method comprises: acquiring diagnostic information for performing the bidirectional charging and discharging process, the diagnostic information defining a target variable characterizing the energy storage device and the diagnostic information defining a charging and discharging current profile corresponding to the target variable for charging and discharging the energy storage device; performing the charging and discharging process by applying the charging and discharging current profile; acquiring a voltage characterizing the energy storage device during the charging and discharging process; determining the target variable based on the acquired voltage and / or the charging and discharging current profile; and outputting the target variable.
