The invention relates to a shock absorber for a landing gear leg of an aircraft, in particular an airplane, comprising a housing, a thrust tube that is retractable into and out of the housing, and a first damping device that exerts a first preload force acting in the extension direction of the thrust tube to dampen movement of the thrust tube in the retraction direction. The invention is characterized in that the first damping device is arranged to be reciprocally movable in the housing in the extension and retraction direction of the thrust tube between a rear stop and a front stop.
