Abstract
The invention relates to a method (3) for controlling a PTC heater (1) to a required predetermined setpoint heating power (P_setpoint). A first duty cycle (DC1) is calculated based on the setpoint heating power (P_setpoint) and the current actual heating power (P_actual) of the PTC heater (1), and a maximum duty cycle (DC_max) is determined depending on a predetermined maximum resistance (R_max) of the PTC heater (1) and its current actual resistance (R_actual). The first duty cycle (DC1) and the maximum duty cycle (DC_max) are compared, and a setpoint duty cycle (DC_setpoint) is set equal to the lower value. Then, a control signal (PWM) with the setpoint duty cycle (DC_setpoint) is generated, and a voltage (U) modulated by the control signal (PWM) is applied to the PTC heater (1). The invention also relates to the PTC heater (1) with a control unit (2) for carrying out the method (3).
