Abstract
Aspects of the disclosure include electrodes manufactured with solid lubricant additives to improve calender processability. An exemplary vehicle includes an electric motor and a battery pack. The battery pack comprises a battery cell including an anode current collector, a layer of active anode material, a cathode current collector, a layer of active cathode material, and a separator positioned between the active anode material layer and the active cathode material layer. The active cathode material layer includes active cathode materials, a solid lubricant additive, and optionally a cathode binder, a conductive additive, or both the cathode binder and the conductive additive. The solid lubricant additive includes materials, each having a plate-like structure with an aspect ratio greater than 3.The solid lubricant additive is spaced within the layer of active cathode material to form channels within which the active cathode materials, the cathode binder, and the conductive additive are resident.
