Abstract

The invention relates to a vitrification system for producing microgranules from biopharmaceutical products (10) and an associated cryopreservation process. The vitrification system comprises a unit for generating product droplets (13) by means of a vibration-excited application cannula (21) and a vitrification unit with a cooling unit (50) in which the product droplets (13) are converted into the vitrified microgranules by contact cooling on a cryogenic vitrification medium (51). High freezing rates prevent crystallization, thus enabling gentle cryopreservation with no or minimal amounts of cell-damaging cryoprotective additives; the technology is preferably used for patient-specific single doses of the microgranules in cell and enzyme therapy.
