Abstract

The invention relates to a method for grinding a gear or a gear-shaped profile using a multi-start grinding worm, in which the grinding worm is subjected to a dressing process before grinding, wherein during the dressing of the grinding worm a dressing tool (1) is brought into engagement with the grinding worm and wherein the dressing tool (1) is designed as a multi-grooved dressing roll which has several dressing surfaces (2, 3, 4) extending around the axis (a) of the dressing roll which are tooth-shaped in radial section. To make such a method suitable for the economical and high-precision production of gears with non-equidistant teeth, the invention provides that at least two of the dressing surfaces (2, 3, 4) are spaced unevenly apart along the axis (a) of the dressing roller and / or that at least two of the dressing surfaces (2, 3, 4) differ in shape from one another in radial section. Furthermore, the invention relates to a dressing tool.
