Abstract

The invention relates to a battery module (3) with a module housing (13) in which a cell assembly of battery cells (7) is arranged, which are electrically interconnected, wherein the battery cells (7) each consist of an electrode / separator arrangement (18) wetted with liquid or partially liquid electrolyte (E). According to the invention, each of the electrode / separator arrangements (18) is arranged in an electrolyte-resistant protective shell (21) which seals the electrode / separator arrangement (18) electrolyte-tight to the outside. The protective shell (21) acts as an internal barrier within the module, providing an electrolyte seal, while the module housing (13), as an external barrier, ensures gas tightness and the mechanical stability of the respective battery cell (7) within the cell assembly.
