Method for monitoring a press gap of a press

Abstract

A method for monitoring a press gap (5) of a press (1) during the production of sheets, wherein the press (1) comprises at least a press frame (2), a first press plate (3) height-adjustable in or on the press frame, and a second press plate (4) fixedly arranged on the press frame, wherein the press gap to be monitored is formed between the first press plate and the second press plate. The press has press cylinders (10) which operate on the first press plate to adjust the press gap and to apply pressing pressure to the material to be pressed within the press gap. To determine the height of the press gap (5) across the gap width, the position and deformation of the first press plate (3) are determined by measurements with several displacement sensors (11) distributed across the width of the first press plate.The deformation of the second press plate (4) is calculated by a computer based on its width, taking into account machine parameters, product parameters stored in the computer, and operating parameters that change during operation. The height of the press gap (5) is calculated by the computer based on the gap width, taking into account the measured position and deformation of the first press plate (3) and the calculated deformation of the second press plate (4).
