Abstract

In at least one embodiment, the method for operating a drive unit (200) for an electric bicycle (100) comprises a step in which first information (I1) is provided that is representative of a rotational speed of the pedal shaft. The method further comprises a step in which second information (I2) is provided that is representative of a torque acting on the pedal shaft, and / or third information (I3) is provided that is representative of a position of the pedals of the electric bicycle (100). In a further step, it is determined, depending on the first and the second and / or the third information, whether a follow-up condition (C1) is met.The push-off condition includes the following: the first piece of information indicates that a rider's pedaling motion serving propulsion has stopped; the second piece of information indicates a torque kick applied by the rider; and / or the third piece of information (I3) indicates that the pedals come to rest within a predefined angular range around a horizontal position when the pedaling motion stops. If the push-off condition is met, a push-off mode (EM) is activated. In push-off mode, a control signal (OI) is generated that is configured to operate the drive unit independently of the torque acting on the pedal shaft.
