Transport device for a particularly small NMR MAS rotor with automated loading and unloading into a sample head

Abstract

A system comprising an NMR probe head (3) of an NMR spectrometer, which is accommodated within a lower section (2) of a transport device (1) for transporting an NMR sample to the NMR probe head, wherein the transport device includes a transport container (4.1) comprising a longitudinal bore (9) for receiving an NMR MAS rotor (7) and a locking device (8), wherein the NMR MAS rotor is transferred to the NMR sample head by releasing the locking device when the transport container is in an operating position on the lower section of the transport device, is characterized in that a channel (6) with an outlet (6') for supplying gas under overpressure is provided in the lower section, and that the transport container has a through-bore (10) which opens at one end into a closed end of the longitudinal bore and at the other end connects to the outlet of the channel when the transport container is in the operating position on the lower section of the transport device. This allows NMR MAS rotors with significantly smaller outer diameters than 4 mm to be transported automatically and safely to the sample head of an NMR spectrometer.
