Abstract

A battery cell and a method are provided. The battery cell comprises a cathode current collector, a cathode arranged on at least one surface of the cathode current collector, a separator arranged on the cathode, an anode current collector, an anode arranged on the anode current collector, and a reductive layer arranged between the separator and the anode. The reductive layer is electronically conductive and has a redox potential of more than 1 V relative to a Li+ / Li pair.
