Abstract

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a color-changing body component (10) for a motor vehicle (100), wherein the body component (10) comprises a color-changing film unit (20) which includes at least one color-changing active layer (21) by electrical control, wherein the method comprises the following steps: - providing a planar film unit (20) with a thermoplastically deformable carrier layer (22) and at least one color-changing active layer (21) arranged on the carrier layer (22), as well as an electrical connection (23) for controlling the active layer (21), - heating the film unit (20) to a predetermined forming temperature, - thermoforming the film unit (20) by inserting it into a mold with a counter contour of the body component, wherein the film unit (20) is adapted to the counter contour of the mold.- Cooling the film unit (20) in its shaped state and - Fixing the shaped film unit (20) onto a body component (10).
