Abstract

The invention relates to a method for determining the aging state of a catalyst (4) of a motor vehicle, which is arranged in an exhaust tract (3) through which exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine (2) of a motor vehicle flows, in which a determination process is carried out, wherein a determination process is carried out several times successively during the execution of the determination process, wherein a respective boost phase of the internal combustion engine (2) takes place and the respective boost phase is ended by starting with a respective fired operation of the internal combustion engine (2) with a combustion air ratio smaller than one.such that a measured quantity by means of a first lambda sensor (5) arranged upstream of the catalyst (4) in the exhaust tract characterizes the smaller combustion air ratio compared to the first at a first time point, and such that at a second time point following the first time point, a measured quantity by means of a second lambda sensor (6) arranged downstream of the catalyst (4) in the exhaust tract (3) exceeds a predetermined threshold value.
