Abstract

The invention relates to a method for checking a steering system of a motor vehicle in which a user-side or driver assistance-side steering command can be implemented via an electromechanical actuator (10) of the steering system on a shaft (16), wherein a check of several mutually redundant torque phase sensors (20) encompassed by the steering system, which are arranged offset by a sensor polar angle value (24) around the shaft (16), is carried out for correct functioning by at least one microcontroller (32) determining whether a phase shift (26) between the total magnetic fields determined by different of the torque phase sensors (20) changes over time and, when determining the change over time of the phase shift (26), a malfunction of at least one of the torque phase sensors (20) is signaled.
