Multi-level global cache

Abstract

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a cache system for a computer cluster comprising a multitude of nodes. The cache system may include a global cache distributed across a subset of nodes of the computer cluster. Each node in the subset provides a portion of its local storage resources to the global cache and executes a cache manager process to: receive a request for a data item; determine whether the requested data is present in the global cache; upon finding the requested data in the portion of local storage resources provided by a contributing node to the global cache, retrieve the requested data by accessing the local storage resources of the contributing node; and respond to the request using the retrieved data.
