SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING PARCEL-MEDIATED LABOR DISTRIBUTION

Abstract

A processing system for distributing work in a computer environment arranges nodes in a network topology. Each node includes upstream and downstream ports for receiving and sending packets, as well as input or output ports for accepting new entries or forwarding packets to functional units. The nodes evaluate received packets for local processing and remove them for processing or forwarding to the next node. The system implements flow control at the input ports, deciding between multiple input ports if the upstream port is inactive, and distributes the work locally to the connected output ports. The packets are inspected to determine their suitability for processing by connected functional units.This efficient system enables flexible strategies for work distribution in homogeneous and heterogeneous networks and reduces the need for repeaters and long cables on integrated circuits.
