Abstract
A system and a process control the energy supplied to an all-terrain machine equipped with terrain-engaging elements for machine movement and hydraulic cylinders for moving a material handling attachment. An internal combustion engine (ICE) is selectively coupled to a transmission via a clutch. A motor / generator is coupled to the transmission. A hydraulic pump is coupled to the transmission to receive energy from it. Electric traction motors drive the terrain-engaging elements. The machine can operate in a pure electric mode, where only the motor / generator supplies energy to the hydraulic pump via the transmission, and in a hybrid mode, where the ICE supplies energy to the transmission and the motor / generator selectively operates as a motor to supply additional energy to the transmission or as a generator to receive energy from the ICE via the transmission.
