Abstract

A polarization beam splitting device (13) can be configured to split light from a light source (11) and emit multiple polarized lights, and can include multiple optical surfaces, including a first optical surface (13a), a second optical surface (13b), and a third optical surface (13c). The first optical surface is located closer to an incident section of the light on the polarization beam splitting device than the second optical surface. The second optical surface is located closer to the incident section than the third optical surface. Predetermined inequalities are satisfied.
