Abstract
Systems and methods for managing reserve battery capacity in vehicles are disclosed. The method involves monitoring battery usage patterns to calculate a battery lifetime rating and determining a reserve battery capacity based on this calculated rating. When the vehicle is within a predefined distance of a charging station, the method calculates the extended driving range available with the reserve battery capacity. An option to release reserve battery capacity is presented to the user, including the associated extended driving range and the effect of releasing the reserve battery capacity on the battery lifetime rating. Upon user confirmation, the reserve battery capacity is released, and the battery lifetime rating and reserve battery capacity are dynamically adjusted based on the effect of the reserve battery capacity release.
