Abstract

An airbag device (M) is arranged at the front of a vehicle occupant (MP) seated in a seat and comprises an airbag (20, 20A) that is folded and stowed in a stowage compartment (16). The airbag is configured to inflate to cover a frontal area from the knees (K) to the upper body (MU) of the vehicle occupant and comprises an upper body protection area (21, 21A) configured to protect the upper body and a knee protection area (72, 72A) configured to protect the knees. Each of the upper body protection area and knee protection area is formed in the form of a separate bag, is connected to a separate gas generator (12L, 12R), is configured to allow an inflation gas to flow into the upper body protection area or the knee protection area, and is folded and stowed in the stowage compartment.
