Reconfigurable reflective surfaces for indoor detection

Abstract

Methods and equipment configurations for controlling signal propagation in a wireless vehicle interior detection system using reconfigurable reflective surfaces are disclosed. One method involves transmitting wireless signals using a transmitter inside a vehicle. Wireless signals are received at a receiver via line-of-sight (LOS) propagation and by reflection from configurable reflective surfaces. Data from reflected signals are compared with data from LOS signals, and a detection state of the vehicle interior is determined, which includes the number of vehicle occupants and may also include other information. Based on the detection state, parameters of the transmitter and the configurable reflective surfaces are adjusted to control signal propagation within the vehicle.
