Electrically operated tailgate of a vehicle, featuring a synchronized reversing camera

Abstract

A vehicle tailgate has a latching body at the rear of the vehicle, configured to rotate between a closed and an open position. A camera is located within the latching body and is configured to capture rearward-facing images from the vehicle. A tailgate actuator is configured to actuate the latching body to rotate between the closed and open positions. A camera actuator is configured to actuate the camera to rotate it between a variety of positions. A controller is configured to control the tailgate actuator to rotate the latching body and to control the camera actuator to keep the camera aligned in the same rearward-facing imaging view during the latching body's rotation.
