Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a system for controlling a vehicle (201) via a communication network (209), wherein a backend system (203) transmits command data sets to a vehicle (201). The method comprises the steps of: calculating or providing a driving mission (204a) of the vehicle (201) by the backend system (203); decomposing the driving mission (204a) into a sequence of discrete, autonomously executable command data sets (204c) by the backend system (203), wherein each command data set comprises at least: action information for performing a vehicle maneuver, at least one parameter for specifying the vehicle maneuver, fail-safe information for defining a safety action to be performed, and sequence information; transmitting the command data sets (204c) from the backend system (203) to the vehicle (201) via the communication network (209).and autonomous execution of the respective command data set by the vehicle (201) using vehicle-owned sensors (202); as well as automatic execution of the safety action defined by the fail-safe information if no subsequent command data set has been received at the time of completion of the execution of the respective command data set.;
