Abstract

A cooling device (200) for an electric motor (100) comprises one or more heat sinks (202) positioned on one or more of two opposite sides of a stator stack (106) of the electric motor (100). Each heat sink (202) comprises a plurality of oval segments (204) that form a cooling structure around a corresponding winding head (112) of a stator winding of the stator stack (106). Each heat sink (202) comprises one or more phase change material (PCM) blocks (206) arranged within each of the oval segments (204). The heat generated by the stator winding is absorbed by the PCM blocks (206) for passive cooling of the electric motor (100).
