Abstract

Pump (1208) for initiating a fluid flow within a vascular system, comprising: at least one inlet; a proximal pumping element segment (3002); a distal pumping element segment (3004); wherein the proximal pumping element segment (3002) and the distal pumping element segment (3004) are configured to initiate the fluid flow by rotation about an axis (918);wherein the proximal conveying element segment (3002) and the distal conveying element segment (3004) have a first configuration for unfolding within the vascular system and a second configuration for directing the fluid flow within the vascular system, the second configuration having a larger diameter than the first configuration, wherein the proximal conveying element segment (3002) has a first drive shaft (3010) and the distal conveying element segment (3004) has a second drive shaft (3011), so that the proximal conveying element segment (3002) and the distal conveying element segment (3004) can be controlled independently of each other.
